Can anyone tell me if there is a way to tell the sex of turkeys from hens and toms while they are still "itty bitty little fellows"? Our hatchery will only sell straight run...no choosing. I need a few hens, not more toms.
Thank you

Personally, I would change hatcherys if they won't sex a poult for you. It's done the same way as a chick, by venting. Females will tend to feather slower too.

Thank you Moody. I will do some searching on internet for hatcherys that sells turkeys. Do you know of any that you could recommend? I would have to purchase them only if the hatchery will ship by mail.
Thanks again

Murray McMurray is probably the largest and what many would consider the best hatchery in this country.
There's a lot of hatcheries, though. Just google hatcheries.

I've used several. Paul is right, McMurray is a great one. I've also used Hoffmans and Moyers in PA. There was one I used in Arizona once and every chick arrived alive, but I can't remember the name. I remember a big red pheonix on the cover. Some even throw in extras just in case. Usually you have to hook up with your local P.O. and pick them up there.
