"Now Patrick Wojtowicz, 36, his wife Melissa, 37, and daughter Gabrielle, 15, raise pigs and chickens for food on 40 acres near Alma, Mich. They're planning a garden and installing a wood furnace. They disconnected the satellite TV and radio, ditched their dishwasher and a big truck and started buying clothes at resale shops..."

I have been listening a lot to my cb radio, and I am hearing more and more people who are now planting a garden, or expanding theirs. I know one gentleman who always has a garden and he is expanding it as well. Not only is he expanding his garden, but he also makes some very good wine, with some of the several fruit trees and berry bushes. He makes his own jerky, and he even plants and roast peanuts...... the weird part of it is that he lives in Indiana. I have eaten some of them and they are good. I think we all need to cut back, and live the "Good" life. There is a book that I have read, and it is almost kind of a "bible" if you will. It is called, ( Your money or your life) it is a very good book, and makes a person think...

That's a very good book dkemple 1. One of the busiest new business's in our area is garden tilling. Lots of folks are starting their first gardens around here. We helped a friend start their first garden this year, they have 2 small children and the costs of food was just getting to high. They also wanted to make sure they could feed their kids good quality food.

"Reviving "almost lost" skills and preparing for tough days make people feel more in control, says Charlotte Richert"
"People are asking, "Do I really want to be 100% vulnerable with no self-sufficiency skills if something happens?" "
These quotes in the article stood out to me. I am thankful people are starting to realize that self relience is a form of empowerment.
Thanks for the artilce. It was a good read.

GREAT article, although alot of the comments at the end of it were very critical of them, some downright mocking. Oh well, we'll see how people mock when THEIR food runs out because they haven't prepared.
