Here's just a question, does anyone else have any ideas of what to do with the feed sacks you get from the store other than using as trash bags? It just seems like a waste to throw them away, just wondering if anyone else uses them in a different way.

I stuff them with straw and sew them up and put them in the dog house for bedding.

We use them as sandbag weights. Mighty windy down in Redrock, especially in the spring. We use them to hold down most anything that would take wing left on it's own. I put about 50lbs of sand in them twisting the remainder of the bag as tightly as we can. Then I bend it back over itself, forming a loop, and fasten the loop to itself with zip ties. This makes a handle as well as a loop to run ropes through. We keep about 8 on hand in the barn and a hand truck speeds transportation to their required destination.

I don't buy my feed in bags. I have the mill make it in bulk. It is much much cheaper that way. The only thing I buy in bags is dog food and horse feed. The horse feed, because I buy only the best and the horses do earn their keep....
I use them for trash sacks and I also keep a couple behind the seat in the pickup to use if I have to crawl underneath a vehicle... I put one on the iron seat in the winter, folded in half. I pick up walnuts and store in them.
Used to, the coops would buy them back from you, but after the mad cow and hoof and mouth, they had to stop reusing bags.
If you build a shed use them for insulation.....

Those are some great ideas everyone, thanks!
It is horse feed I was talking about. That's all I am buying right now, that and dog food, but the sweet feed bags are much sturdier.
Great ideas, I'll start keeping all I can and put them to good use. Thanks!

That reminds me of the floursacks my mother used to make our play clothes out of. Sometimes there would be one that would make a pretty enough skirt or blouse for school. Good old days.

we can only get paper sacks around here so I'm stuck using them for recycling. Fortunately one bag is about perfect for a weeks worth of paper/cardboard around here (kids produce alot of paper!)
If I had burlap grain sacks I'd use them around the garden on top of or under the mulch between rows as one more layer to keep weeds from growing. Come to think of it I could probably use the paper ones that way too - I'd just need to cut the sides so I could lay them flat.
I use them in path as weed barrier before a lay gravel
