I want to overseed a couple of smaller fields that I have for my goats and I am wondering what you all would recommend as a decent grass or mixture to put down. The soil isn't great and I am going to mow it very close to the grond and then just run over it a bit with a rough drag to loosen things a bit. Of course this will be when I can even see the ground and it isnt hard as a rock. I thank you for any and ALL suggestions. Have a great day. :)
This place has some info on establishing pastures:

It will be hard for someone in a different part of the country to tell you what type grasses to seed. However, I personally, think that native grasses are always the best way to go.
Check with your extension office and they can tell you the best grasses to use and/or what grasses are considered native for your area.

agree 200% - while our county agent is a dud, the printed material available can't be beat - and when verbal info is needed, it's not that far to talk to the agent/s in neighboring counties -
in addition, you could drop in wherever you see a really verdant pasture - the owners are usually happy to brag about how they accomplished it -
I visit the below site for livestock info, they have a whole section on pasture and grass, I hope it's helpful.
