Last year I signed up to receive word from the State of Alaska, when they put more remote land up for sale/bid. I just got word they will do this again this spring. I thought maybe some on here would be interested, if they don't already know about it.

cmdan,
Do you have to be an Alaskan resident or can anyone buy these? Also, I am assuming you can build whatever you want to live in or is there restrictions?
Just curious.

From what I have read, you have to be a resident for the auctions, but the over the counter stuff is open to all. Much of this land is hard to get too and if you build and don't use the local trees (if there is any in the area) then it is expensive to get the materials out there. Some do some prep work in the summer and pull the materials out in the winter time, by sleds. Not many restrictions in remote locations, even if there where, no one would be there to enforce them. All properties the State of Alaska sells are suppose to have an area large enough to build on....so they say. It would be best to go look at the land you are interested in, before buying, just so there are no "big" surprises.

alaska sounds great ,i live in western maine where its not much differnt ,cold snow bugs ,and remote . we live a mile from any neighbors and do have a way to get out , may be if i was younger i would move to alaska but i lived here all my life and things are set up the way we want them. my advice to anyone thinking of alaska , do your home work first. its nice to look at the pretty pics of alaska but being there in mid winter is something else and that goes for where i live, seen many people come and go. the romanceis gone when its snowing and temps are 40 below and you have to go out . but i would not trade in a million years. steve
