I saw this (http://www.realtor.com/realestateandhomes-detail/8247-W-Country-Road-600-S_Redkey_IN_47373_1105570158) and did a double-take. Seems awful low for three acres and a house. Must be something horribly wrong with it...right?

Denham,
It has to have a problem. If you notice, it has been on the market for 80 days. Maybe it has to be moved or something......

Who knows, if it's in your area, go check on it. Big house, even though it didn't have very many bedrooms or bath. Maybe there is a problem with the foundation or something.
What I've learned is it doesn't cost to call and find out for info!

The last deal like that I saw was next to a VERY smelly chicken operation, and down wind. :-X But maybe its just this economy. Dunno, let us know!

You might ask if the dwelling has a radon (http://www.epa.gov/radon/index.html)gas problem since it's located in a high risk county (http://www.epa.gov/radon/zonemap/indiana.htm). It's a controllable problem but it costs a lot to abate it, which you may be seeing in the selling price. Might be worth further investigation.

In VA it costs around $1200 to $1500 for a radon abatement system - just went through that with the house I am buying there. It passed the test but if it didn't that is what it would have cost to remediate it.

15,000 for three acres and well and septic is a good deal, even if the house needed to be torn down!

I would wonder about zoning laws and possible future iminent domain. its an 1800's house, dry rot? and it has no electricity, how far would you have to take elec to get it to the house? that right there could run you easily 70k. check into it before you buy, and listen close when they are telling you everything the tend to talk realy fast and mumbly when they mention the bad things.

Take a look at the bottom of the house on the one side, it is discolored. I would make sure it is not in a flood plain.

I think its a typo...... should read $115900.

thats about what the market for the house on 3 acres would be in that area.

I wonder if you are right. I had my dad take a look at the picture and he thinks it's been flooded.
