just came in. still feel elated, wondering whether to laugh of cry or both. My momma goat just had two kids an hr ago. I was just putting out feed for the evening (in the new feeding stations we made yesterday) she was in her stall and I noticed she was coming along. what was touching beyond words, she called out for me to come over, she calmed down immediately and I stayed with her. after the little ones were clean and standing on their feet we let the other mommas in. so glad they all have a feeding station and all is peaceful. this is what makes it for me, I wish I could have sat in the straw and just stay and enjoy the peace, hear them eat their food. I always love it when it is nasty outside and all my animals are snug and enjoying supper. so much on a homestead to touch your heart in so many ways.

That feeling of tranquility easily crept into my mind through your words, thanks, that was neat.

Ok I need to visit again and see the new lil babies. Maybe I can get one in muh pocket and bring it home. lol And like Jason ask when I was wanting the lil lambs " mom how ya gonna feed em". Well dang I sure wish I had some fences and an empty barn. Someday soon I will make it happen.
Thanks for sharing that lil story with us Rosie, you painted such a tranquil picture with words.

Have a great day!

Thank you so much for sharing your tranquil moment.

Often those are just what we need to "recharge" our batteries, so to speak.

Seems that so few folks, these days, take the time to enjoy a few minutes of true peace. Whether it's time spent with newborn kids or just standing in the living room with a cup of coffee and watching the dawn break.

I felt like I was there with you for a few minutes. Thank you!

Totally understand that, bookwormmom!

I love it when it is cold and snowy and silent, and suddenly Chester the Rooster crows, and the chicken start clucking quietly. Then Grace whinnies over the fence, asking for her apples, and the Dexter girls wander over for a scratch and an alfalfa cube or six, sneaking up and raiding my pockets when I'm not looking. "How can you stand it, being out there all alone?" We are never alone... we are in symbiotic relationships that are warm and happy and comfortable.

Yes, the little moments are what make it. Watching a flat of veggies you planted for the first new little tomato to stick its head up, watching a egg in incubator transform into a chick, etc. Yesterday morning, fog had frozen to all the tree branches here, and there were ice crystals an inch thick on everything, and the sun was shining, and it sparkled like diamonds.

Little things, like waking up in the morning and the house is cold cos the fire's about out, watching those first little flames lick up through the dry kindling you put in.... like the first crocus poking up through the snow....or the first robin singing the first song of spriing.

I could about hear your goats munching their grains, and smell the sweet warm scent of hay, and see the new little kids standing on wobbly legs. Thanks for sharing your moment of peaceful bliss to remind us all of the little things.

I also thank you for sharing this moment. I know when we were just beginning to have one of the many snowstorms we have had here I went down to put more fresh hay out for my goats. It was the typical still quiet time when the flakes were just starting to fall. I went in their shed and spread the hay out and ended up setting there for awhile just spending time with the sight and smells. It will wake all your senses up for sure. One of the kids finally came to see where I went. LOL They thought I got lost I suppose. :)

Yes, what everybody else said. We've been cooped up here cabin fever survivors. When let the puppy out, to hear the birds happy sounds even though the wind is sharp and biting. Can't help but hope the birds know something we don't, maybe warmer weather isn't weeks off but just around the corner. Can't wait to go 'dig in the dirt' again.

I will never forget the first birth I witnessed.
Grandpa had a nanny goat and she gave birth to 3 babies.
I watched from start to end and I sat in the barn with them for hours.
I had to bottle feed the last one cause momma wouldn't let it nurse.
That was almost 50 years ago and I still remember it like yesterday.
Wonder what my wife will say if I get a goat.
Thank you for refreshing the memory.

Ok I need to visit again and see the new lil babies.

Stella, swing by and pick me up! .....

One of the things I like best besides the slow pace and the quiet is when I'm outside in the bitter cold and snow finishing chores and grabbing an armload of firewood, thinking how cold it is and the from out of nowhere, I get a big whiff of the smell of the wood stove. That alone will almost warm you. It makes you feel cozy and want to get back inside. Then to step inside to the warmth of a wood fire.....
