I hope this isn't a hoax - I don't see how it can work, but it looks like it's working!

They're using soda bottles filled with water and a little Clorox bleach to make a solar light. Since the top half has to stick out of the roof, it's not really adaptable for a house, but for extra lighting in winter for chickens, now maybe! It says each one is equal to a 50 watt bulb.
Of course, it's only producting light when the sun hits it, but if it does work, this could be a handy invention!

I was thinking of using a 12v car battery, hooked to a solar charger, and robbing some lighting stuff out of an old camper trailer, quick and easy :D

awhile back wally world had a sale on those solar path lights - pack of 12 for well under $40 - with a little jury-rigging you can mount the units on the roof and run just two little wires inside for each bulb - it's not sunshine but it also provides light where the sun don't shine (how's that for fitting in a sorry pun) -

I would be careful about poking holes in a coop roof, it doesn't take a very big hole for rats, possums, mink, weasels to get in.

that's why God created caulk and great stuff - you'd only need a hole large enough to run a wire through - and the wire pretty much fills up the hole -

No, people there's NO electricity involved! Strictly a chemical reaction when the sun hits the bleach water & lights it up. (That's why it doesn't work at night.) But golly - if this isn't a hoax, there are some ways this could be used around the homestead. It seems too good to be true - so it probably isn't. *:-/
Ah . . I Googled it. And this is what I found out. The little clear bottle is like a tiny skylight. The bleach in the water helps keep algae from growing in it, and also helps scatter the light better. That's ALL. But in a dark area, this can seem like a lot of light. And it's free and easy to do. The bottle has to stick up so the sun hits the water, and stick down into the room so the light can also spread out. There's no chemical reaction - only scattering of existing sunlight.

I think that wood definitly work in a chicken coop as long as they couldn't reach them. As well as campers and, tents and, well I could go on and on.
Gives me something to think about. hmmm
