Moving hostas

When you dig them up, you can also divide the root clump and make more plants.

I'm glad you posted this because I need to divide some of mine, too. I always wait too late.

It's supposed to snow again. Sometime this week I think. Should I still grab the shovel? Or wait?

That's a good idea. They were pretty huge plants last year.

If the hostas are large you may want to get some help. I have found that the root balls are extremely heavy-in fact I broke a shovel handle trying to leverage one out of the ground a few years ago. Took two men folk to get it out.
I have left some in place because they are too enormous to handle. One when it is in full leaf out is about 6 feet in diameter.

You neednt be in a hurry, hosta can be moved at any time of the year, a few of the miniatures are just a bit more tender.

I butchered up one of those huge ones last summer, what a job.

Daffodil, as others have said, it won't hurt to move them even if it's going to snow. I usually wait till they're up a little, but that's just so I can find them.

Hi Daffodil, now is a great time to dig and divide your hosta. I think I would go ahead before they start leafing out, otherwise you injure the leaves and they just wont be as pretty this year. It sure won't hurt them to wait though, they are pretty tough. Shannon
