Latest local news report is that it appears that 8 tornados touched down in NC last night. No deaths, and a few injuries reported so far.

While rescue teams are working in the hard hit areas, waiting for daylight to try to fully access the damage areas. In addition, there were flash flood warnings. At one time last night some of the storms were dropping rain at the rate of 3-4" per hour.

Fortunately, we only lost power for a while last night. While we weren't in the areas of reported tornados, will be checking after it gets light to see if we have any wind damage.

Rough night on the homestead, last night.

The area most severely hit was around Charlotte and northwards towards High Point. Homes destroyed. Thousands without power, according to the accounts.

Person county, near the VA border and east of the main area, also had radar indicated tornado acitivity. That's the area, from what I understand that also had the flash flood warnings.

So far, so good here. We did lose power again, for a while not long after I posted earlier. Only stayed off about 20 minutes this time. And, the rain has finally stopped, for the time being. Storms have moved into the coastal plains area.

I think we had some trees, north of the house that were struck by lightening. Far too wet to check them out yet. The creek in the backyard is in flood stage and water's standing in every low spot. So, it'll be awhile before we check out the back 40.

My prayers are going out to those folks to the west of us, too.

Lee,

As soon as I heard this on the news this A.M. I thought about you. I am so glad you posted that you are OK, because I worried that you might be in the area effected.

I will send prayers out for people who have been devastated by this storm, and hopefully the weather will clear so that the clean up can begin.

As a girl, I lived in Indiana, so I am familiar with that terror.

Laura, I hope everything was OK with your FIL yesterday.

Saw a house on the news that' I wouldn't have believed if someone had told me. It was a 2 story. Looked like someone had sawed it in half separating the first story and the 2nd. Then, it was as if someone pushed the 2nd story toward the back of the house. Then, the 2nd story was split in half vertically, and half of it fell off. Could see thing sitting on the dresser, as if eveything was normal on the half that remained on top of the house.

Amazing, or rather thank God, last I heard there were only 4 or 5 injuries.

CapeCMom, hope you're high and dry with all that rain that's gone your way, from this storm system. Think I heard yesterday this may go down as the wetest March in history up your way.

Gracie, WileyCoyote, firegirl969, CapeCMom, and Laura thanks to each of you for your kind words. Much appreciated.

Lee,

Yeah it's pretty wet here, but mostly just street flooding. It's times like this that I am relieved that we have sandy soil. Sorry to say that up by Boston they are in a world of hurt.
Massive flooding. The Gov. has declared a state of emergency, and has activated the National Guard. I have a girlfriend up there who's sump pump died a few days ago. Haven't talked to her since-I hope things are OK.

Your description of that home gave me chills. I could not imagine living through a tornado ripping apart my house. The closest I have ever come to that was about a mile. The sound of the tornado siren still creeps me out.

God Bless-Again-I am glad you are OK.

Lee Glad to hear all is well with you and yours. I figure any day it will be happening here in Oklahoma. I have lived here all my life and we kind of get numb to them but last year we had a small one go over the house before we could get to the cellar. It done $6000.00 damage to the house we were living in then and gave me a wake up call to be more alert. I am praying for those that were in the path. Ken
