..... have fortified and now padlocked the hen houses to prevent a repeat of the loss of 50% of our hens due to theft this past year. With the economy worsening, I fear that not only will the poultry be a target, but so will the cattle and also the food from the garden.
pcrowder, somehow I got the impression that you were far enough out that you wouldn't have had to worry about chicken thieves and rustlers. How far out are you? The piece I am all "hot and bothered" about right now is 17 miles uphill from a pop center of 30,000. I thought that would be enough. Maybe not? They'd pass a lot of other farms before they got to ours.
In PA, I think they'd take a pretty dim view of someone shooting to protect livestock. I wonder if there are "rustler laws" on the books in PA?
