Hi folks,
I have to recommend the book Strategic Relocation, by Joel Skousen for anyone who is considering relocating to another state to purchase land and set up their homestead. This book covers topics ranging from population density to rates of taxation, to what degree of home schooling is allowed, whether or not you can have a baby at home, to crime rates, natural and man made disasters. It has some very informative maps. At the end of the book is has every state and every county listed for % of crime rate, population density, etc.

I purchased one several years back and it has been invaluable to me in determining which state to move to and which ones to avoid.
