Don't know if I should post this here or not, but I believe I picked up a trojan yesterday from the HT forum. Good thing I have more than one computer, because it chewed up the one I was using...bad.

I hooked up one of my other computers, updated my security definitions, and just tried to visit HT again...was attacked immediately...big time. Fortunately, my security software caught it this time.

I'm sure they probably already know about it, but if someone knows how to get in touch with the mods, perhaps it would be wise to have them check into it.

I believe they have a facebook page that you might be able to use to get the word to them.

I think I found the correct FB page and posted...thanks.

Isn't that twice now in the past few months? Or was that a different issue they had then? I know they had to shut down for a while to get things back up and running then.

Well, looks like I'm not crazy...someone else posted on FB that they tried to visit and was attacked but their AV software caught it.

I've gotten trojan horses so many times on HT, I quit going there.

I am on HT several times a day as well as here and although I did read something about a virus warning someone got I don't think anyone actually got a virus. I have never gotten a virus over there and the reason they crashed a while back was something totally beyond their control if I understand correctly. It is usually a result of so much growth and things are better when it is fixed. I love BWH and HT. I am not to smart about computers so it is a good thing we have such smart people watching out for things and fixing them when they need fixing both here and there.

Junie, Which ones are the best?
This time it was suppose to be an add that was setting peoples antivirus programs off. It is suppose to be fixed I think.

I don't know. I have AVG. My tech guy said to load malwarebytes. I ran it and it found 6 trojan horse fragments that AVG missed. Problem is, I deleted the icon on my desktop and now I can't find the thing. I know it's still on here, because I can find the readable files, but I can't find the thing I need to run it. Guess I'll have to download it again.

Good luck, Junie, wish I could help you find it. I hope mine's covered. Had Trojans on old machine, pain in the neck.

I am running avg and having no problems. I did get a bad virus a few months ago from some site my GS was on and had to take the computer to a professional to fix it. He put avg on it and said it was better than mcafee or symantec. I don't know a lot about it but so far I have not had any problems since he installed it. I do run updates regularly.

No program is fool proof. Virus' are being written everyday, and you only have to miss doing an update once, and you could be infected.........or you could get a Mac, no constant security patches needed, and they are pretty much free of all that junk written for PCs.

Suspected that an advertizement was the culprit. I've had the trogan warning pop up over at Mother Earth News not long ago. Due to the loading sequence (easy to watch on dialup  ) the timing of the warning seemed to indicate that it was in an ad.

Just my 2-cents.

I have a mac........are these just 'pc' viruses?
I visit there daily, but will stop if I am going to booger up my machine.

Ahhh, another who ..." Thinks different "...:D

Macs CAN get virus' it is just that they usually don't, Mac only has like 5% of the market, so virus writers don't waste their time writing them for Macs as it doesn't affect as many people. Just because you are basically safe, that doesn't mean you should go poking around unprotected, good virus programs are great, especially if you set them to update automatically each night. I run Symantec and it does it's job, but in 18 years I have only had one attempt and my virus protection caught it. I have friends with PCs that have had dozens in just the last year.........
