Mowing, cutting a tree down, digging up some plants in order to get rid of them. Trimming trees, I am off work this coming week, so I am sure I will be doing a lot of things that need to be caught up on. Oh yeah, I need to stain the house.. been meaning to do that for the last year. May be bringing the camper home.( I have a camp spot foe the summer at a club that I am a member of ) winterizing camper, getting vehicles ready for winter.. Blah, blah, blah. Same old thing every year. I hope to build me some raised beds before winter sets in.

Pulled the rest of my tomatoes - most are green - will ripen them indoors. Putting the garden to bed - weeding (worst job ever!), cut down some corn stalks for fall decoration. I'm thinking about putting in some winter wheat to see how it does. Never tried it before so excited to see if it comes up. Also putting in some green onion seeds - weather here has been unusually warm, so thought I would see if I could get some going and then put a cold frame over them when winter hits.

I put some garlic in the ground on Saturday, burned a pile of brush that was trimmed from bushes in front of the house, gave the dog a bath and ordered pizza delivered for the first time in 6 months. Boy, was it tastey!

Canning all the stuff that got hit with the freeze the other night. Did ripe tomatoes yesterday, now have to do green tomato pickles, jello jam, and mincemeat. Then have to harvest the rhubarb and squash. I am sooooooooooooo tired.

The frost got the rest of the garden the other night, so I was able to harvest the brussel sprouts. I had picked a bunch of tomatoes before the frost and they are in the garage.

I mowed the yard, I should hope this is the last time this season. It's a big yard, around two acres and there are a lot of trees and fruit trees to go around, plus all the raspberry bushes that we put in. Looking forward to winter. ;)

Im continuing with my cabin project. Still working on the floors. Hopefully get started on the floor insulation sometime this week. It takes me an hour after work to get there and now with this time change that only leaves me about an hour and a half of daylight. Theres no electrical out there and dont plan on getting it anytime soon so it is pitch dark and hard to see what im doing once daylight fades away. Very little will get done during the week until this coming weekend. Im doing this whole project alone so it will take me some time. But Im having fun building!

I am attempting to develop my homestead business of pottering. I am glad I got most of my garden work out of the way and most of the firewood. what needs to be done in that respect can be done later. I am pooped. There is a christmas market I am supposed to participate in and everything went as wrong as wrong can get. first I almost cut my little finger of chopping wood, now problems with the kiln. Husband has been busyputting up one of those stainless steel chimneys and I hope to be able to have a fire in the stove in the shop by this evening.
I found out that cows like parsley :(, we won't have to mow the yard, husband has been letting the heifer and the calves out in the yard and they have grazed it down pretty good, also went in the garden, ate the winter wheat, the radish tops and the parsley, did not get the kale eaten.
today we opened the chickenlot so the chickens can do their thing in the garden. I have endive covered up but I will be surprised if it does anything. It was too hot during fall garden planting time, it got off to a bad start but the turnips look good. .
we made a big planting bed out of railroad ties near the house. I thought of putting flowers there, but now I think it will be for salad greens and kitchen herbs. I have a herb bed by the kitchen backdoor and since it is cooler there and everything grew well, the dogs went to snoozing there. grrr. the plants are my responsibility and the animals are husbands realm. we help each other, but so far his critters mostly do damage to my plants. He is not a farmer, he ought to be a circus director. Our cat rolls over and jumps through a hoop, I lost a bet ( got to bake a pan of brownies) the calves come when he calls them. they seem to know their name, I hope he won't teach them to give paw, soooo cute, but still, I do not like them in my garden.

Digging a 2 ft. deep trench across the backyard to replace a rusted out water line. Have to do it by hand due to PVC sprinkler pipes cutting across the yard too. The good thing is the ground is well watered and I can dig 8 ft of trench in less than an hour. It'll be done by the weekend. then the fun begins-the old pipe goes under the cement patio, and I'll have to water jet it out. :-/

Mulching along the back of my property for what will be next spring's garden area. Adding shredded leaves and the last of the grass clippings to the compost bin. Pruning branches that are hanging over the roof. Wishing I would have installed GutterGuard™ over the summer. :-[

The tuff-shed has been up for months, and we still do not have it ready for use.

MUST of it is insulated, then we need to get the inner plywood up, THEN I can set up shelves to start seedlings by the South windows and THEN I can screen off half of it for the chickens so that they can get out of the hen house that is falling apart (My first building experience, it is 3' by 4', and it is 12 years old and all worn out).

We go ON and ON and it is NOT done and NOT done........

For a simple job is surely does take a long time!!!!!!!!!!!

Y'all are making me feel lazy. :-[ Wish I had some of y'alls energy.

I am finishing the last floor in the house THANK GOD! I have been working on the stupid floors in this house for 2 1/2 years now. I had bought all the materials that long ago, and I only had the greatroom to do, but that is also where the woodstove is, and the kitchen island and my desk and everything else heavy and unweildy. So I finally got around to unhooking the wood stove and in a nutshell, I am about 5/8 of the way through with putting the flooring down!! ;D It's oak laminate, it was cheap but it's nice looking and so far seems to be holding up well in the other rooms where I did get it put down. Bought some new granite tiles to go under the woodstove. Putting the baseboards back down and painting the walls is my next chore, but it may take a couple of weeks to do get that done.

Also ground up 'buck' yesterday. I have pictures of buck on the back of the three wheeler, and pictures of buck in the ice chest, being butchered, ground up, and a nice buck roast. It was delicious, I roasted it with onions and carrots and made gravy. It was delicious, and I have leftovers for tonight.

I will try to post photos of the buck, he was quite nice for this area. I took him with a .30 30 at about 150 yd. (Big Thicket area). I have to get the photos out of the cell phone and then to photobucket first, and then I will try to post a couple.

Planted bluebonnet seeds in peat pellets today, hoping to get some started out by the road. I guess I will just plant them plug-style when they are big enough. I already have a few flats of coneflowers, coreopsis, and something else, can't recall what, for wildflower purposes.

Starting on my cabin wall frames this weekend. Dont know how far i will get but any progress is better than no progress. We are supposed to get some cooler temperatures this weekend. Got my floor done FINALLY! I never want to deal with floor insulation again.

I bet you're glad to be done with the floor. I know I've read more than a few posts about how you had been working on it. I finished putting down my laminate flooring today ;D and I got out my cans of paint and came up with a soft yellow that matches pretty close what I painted with last time. Funny how new flooring makes everything else look so dirty. I may cut in around the windows, doors, walls etc tonight, or I may not.

That cool front has literally just blown in here, about 10 minutes ago (9:40 p.m.) the wind started gusting up pretty high. With any luck it will help bring down some of the broken and dead branches in the trees left over from the hurricane.

Got a new stove catalyst coming tomorrow. I could not find one in the city of Houston, so I had to order one from some place in North Carolina. Paying extra for them to overnight it/Saturday delivery :o scared to see how much $$ it's going to cost, but I had to have one.

GoodDaughter,

The only time i have to really spend time on my project is the weekends. I have less than an hour of daylight during the week if i drove those 60+miles(one way). It is a slow progress but I'll get there. I took a little extra time on the floor for extra re-inforcements. I just wanted to know that it will hold. The floor really feels solid under my feet.

Our "cold front" and high winds just blew in also about 11pm or so. Supposed to dip down into the high 30's tomorrow(Sat.) night. That is big for us! HIghs in the upper 60's and you bet i am taking advantage of working outdoors with that kind of temperature.

I hope your stove arrives safely and everything intact. I know you have probably told me, but what part of Texas are you in Ma'am?

I'm near Houston. Ick. I know...but I try to make the most of it.

It's about 9:20 p.m. and it's already down to 42 degrees. It's been breezy all day but not as bad as last night. Boy, it was really windy. I can feel a draft coming in around the doggy door right now, so I'm going to have to figure out how to winterize it. The wind last night was actually blowing the flap on the doggy door open, had to put in the solid plastic door to keep the wind out. Supposed to be mid-30's tonight.

Yes, my catalyst got here (just the little catalyst, not a whole wood stove) at about 11 a.m., and I had it put in 10 minutes later and got my fire going about 6 p.m. SO nice, like a brand new stove again.

some guy bought the 700 acres of woods that are on the south side of our place. They are logging it now, for a few weeks I have heard the chainsaws in the distance. so last week the got to our end of it. I just walked along our fence area and there is more wood left lying around to build a few houses and heat them for a couple of decades. I hate to see it go to waste. It is really easy to access so we may get a few pick up loads of fire wood, cut up arm thick branches that won't need splitting. From my experience around here, it will just lie there and rot, grow honeysuckle and multifloras over it.
We just covered a couple of cattle panel hoops with plastic, should have been done a long time ago. endive and lettuce is growing and Ihope it gets a boost. I planted a lot of cornsalad , I see it coming up now. It was just hot too long and rained too late.

For me, my wife and oldest son are at a youth conference, so it was time for some firewood and I got to work on my youngest daughter's Christmas gift, a cradle, that her mom and I are building.

bookwormom: That's awesome about the woods (not the logging part, but the leftover wood). I hope that you're able to get a lot before it goes to waste.

My wife and I are trying to get the last of the leaves raked up and I have my 54 cal. black powder leaning against the house because it's BP deer season and last year I got a nice muley that was watching us rake leaves. until I was able to get close enough for a shot.

We are going to work on the chicken condo. Finance has gotten some industrial tin for the roof for free and we are also getting a load of left over, scrap lumber for free from a construction site. That will benefit us for the chicken coop building. We are also fixing the fence line around the duck coop. An electrician friend of my fiance is suppose to come over and put an outside outlet on our outside light pole so we can have access to it for the ducks and chickens.
