Hello, All,
Hubby has accepted a new job in Olympia, Washington and we'll be looking for a long-term lease on a decent house with a little acreage for gardening, chickens, etc.
I am discouraged by the proximity to the Seattle metroplex area and am wondering if the chance to live this kind of lifestyle is still possible with such a huge population base.
Any input and advice from Washington residents or others knowledgeable about that area would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! :)

Move South or West of Oly and you should be able to find something.
I just moved from the south end of the Seattle area and I will never move back any closer than I am now. (175 miles)
North of Olympia and you will be in Army and Air Force country so housing can be a problem.
West of Olympia is where I would look if it was me.
Where are you moving from?
If it's California be sure to get your car license plates changes ASAP. Californians are not our favorite people. ;D
Welcome to the Great NW.

We're relocating from Salem, Oregon and have lived in the PNW all our married lives (30 years).
I don't even tell people here I was BORN in California, even if it WAS back when dinosaurs roamed the earth... ;D
Thanks for the tips!

Years ago we lived in both Oly and Tumwater during out stay at Ft Lewis and loved it. Had a boat back then and the weekends were spent on the water. Was almost 50 years ago--1961

Moved from the the west side the day interstate 5 was completed. Went over to the east side and never looked back. You to could do it but it's one hell of a commute.

My sister lives in Olympia out by Black Lake on the west side. It is pretty nice out there and they are close to a large tract of forest.
I know she grows a heck of a garden every year.
I was going to warn you about the rain, but since your in the Salem area, I dont have too.
I grew up on the "wet" side and moved to the "dry" side as soon as I could. ;)
Best regards,
HD
