I've heard a few suggestions like putting cat hair around your bed, or cayanne pepper. I'm not sure if those work. I just put a couple rubber snakes and a few pinwheels in my raised beds today to try and keep birds out. I suppose it might work on squirrels too, but I'm not sure. I hear that I should move the snakes around every other day so the critters don't figure out they're fake too quickly.
Oh! someone on here suggested nailing a rat trap to a tree or post and baiting with peanut butter. I bet that would work.

Try a couple of those "fake" owls, hard plastic or inflatable type. Put them up on a pole in and around the garden or on a high shelf. You can get them at most any garden supply center. They worked for us. I remember when we brought them home from the store and took them out of the truck our cats took one look and bolted off to hiding!!

The best way is removal, beings you are in the city, the rat trap or a high power pellet rifle would be my first choices.
