There's a spot for canning. I'd love to see one for dehydrating. I'm sure there's lots of folks here that do that. Crossing Fingers. :)

Mary,

Actually, the board that is labeled "Canning/Preserving" is for all types of food preservation whether it is canning, dehydrating, or freezing. The only reason Canning is listed is because it is the most common form of food preservation on a homestead (not talking about freezing).

I know.. just thought it would be nice to separate them for ease of use.

I hope they will consider giving dehydrating a place in the canning area, maybe a sticky..

I think I'd just like it separated because it would be fun to see threads like 'what did you dehydrate today' and also because I could skim through more quickly and not run into canning recipes.

I guess I think its a popular enough topic. But we shall leave it in the hands of the boss to decide eh? :)

I use a dehydrator almost every day, but I doubt it would be a subject matter that would be sustainable and interesting after you get beyond the basics. Then it kind of moves in to recipes using dehydrated foods and that goes into a totally different direction.

A 'sticky' might work, if it were moderated so that only relevant information stayed in it so people would have one place to look for information.

This week I dehydrated garlic for the first time since I ran out of garlic powder in my spice rack and was hesitant about being run out of the house, but I have done onions plenty of times and I just add a tray or two of celery leftovers to dampen the aroma with success, so I tried it with the garlic. Success! Strong aroma for a brief period and then it mellowed out and didn't even have to vent out the house.

We've set up a "sticky" thread at the top of Food > Canning/Preserving and called it "Food Dehydrating". Please post all dehydrating topics to this thread. It will give us an idea of whether there is a need for a separate "Dehydrating" board.... sort of "testing the waters". We'll see how well this works.

As of now, I've moved the "What did you dehydrate today" and merged it into the "Food Dehydrating" sticky thread.

Thanks,
Paul
