My final yearly balloon payment was cashed today, which means we now officially own our homestead free and clear. We should be receiving the deed shortly after all the paperwork is processed.
We still own money on our home equity loan, but the homestead is now payed for in FULL! What a feeling!

That is awesome! Congratulations!
We still have our mortgage, but remember the feeling of paying off our car and truck. I can imagine what the feeling must be like to pay off your homestead.
Congrats, again!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!
I know what it felt like to burn my uniforms when I finally retired. I can only imagine what it must feel like to OWN your homestead. Enjoy it.

I know the feeling. I paid my place off two times and said I was never going to borrow against it again. Congrats.

Congratulations.
When I got the the abstract to my farm, I was shocked to see "A.Lincoln" had signed the original land patent.
A lot of hopes and dreams tied up in that little 150 year old packet of legalize.

On a similar note, Toyota Motor Corp. called my house today to try to get me to buy a new car. They said they would guarantee that I would get more for my current car as a trade in than I owed. I have an '04 4-Runner with less than 40k miles on it. I owe 5 more payments on it. I certainly hope that the car is worth more than I owe!!!
I plan to drive this car until the wheels fall off. I am really happy with it and would buy another one, in 15 or 20 more years.
But, I wonder how many people fall for that crap they say. He thought I might need a car that got better milage. NOPE, quite happy with what I have. Why get another payment, and at the most 10 more MPG??? I guess we'd be surprised how many folks do.
BTW, house and acreage are paid off, too YIPPEE!!!
OKAY, rant over.

I like the chic who called here and said,
I want to offer you a break on your student loans...
"sorry, didn't have any"
"I want to offer you a lower car payment"
"ant got one"
"oh I'm calling to offer you a....."
"sorry....."
"so why did you call me?" She said she didn't know but if she wished she were me. I took that as a complament.

yes, we get those calls too. I saw somewhere that the 'average' household has over 10k in credit card debt. Good Grief! I don't think I could sleep at night if I owed that much. We are truely blessed, both by having good jobs and great self control over impulse buying. We hope to have a long, debt free retirement in 10 years or so. Hubby will retire before me, but that's ok. He has more work on the farm than I do.
