Recently put down laminate floors in a medium cherry wood color. It is a reddish brown but not too dark and not too light, just a medium shade.

The walls in a couple of rooms were a pale yellow and a pale pink respectively, and now they don't look good with the floors.

What color paint would go with a medium shade of cherry wood?

I don't like dark colors, no blues, purples, lavender, gray, teal, red, and definitely no 'neon' colors or funky wallpaper. I prefer pale shades.

I do like greens as long as they aren't too dark.

Heck, everything in my house is RED - bathroom has red vanity counter tops with red, blue, white & yellow plaid walpaper; outhouses on the border and blue and white chicken wire print wall paper above. Kitchen has barn red from floor to chair rail and red and white check print above. Living/Dining room has blod red walls with white trim - younges son said it looked like Santa exploded. DH said it looked like a whore house. Our bedroom and family room is white with grey/blue trim. We have wood floors throughout and the living/dining room has tongue and groove ceeling with just a tiny bit of white stain in the varnish.

Considering all the colors you don't like - go with white or off white.

on the interior of a house, any color is fine so long as it is white - on the exterior of a house, any color is fine so long as it is white -

lol Moose too, you have my color scheme.
reddish floor, green goes best with it, something light sage.

I was looking at some pictures of interiors in magazines, and I am thinking a light sage green, too. That's what I saw in some pictures, with furniture of a similar color to my new floors, and it really made the furniture look nice.

White--boooooorrrring! I have a few 'white' walls in the house, but they are more off-white/cream color, which looks really nice with bright white trim.

I redid colors here last summer when I created my home office. We also put in laminate flooring in an Oak herring bone.

I was really bad at picking colors so I asked a friend of mine whose color scheme in her house I always liked to help out. I got a whole bunch of different paint chips and we spent about an hour with them in differnt light and angles, all kinds of options.

What I found was that the same chips where coming forward as ones I liked over and over. Then we would hold them up to a different area of the room to see what that was like. I settled on two colors for my office - light sage green on two walls and light blue on the opposite two walls. In the living room area I found a yellow with a hint of pink and orange - very hard to describe. They have worked out really really well here.

So if you can find someone with a good eye for color to come help out and look at those options in all areas it might help.

I agree - white is boring! However the wrong color gets tiring also. I thikn I went too pink with the outside of my house and I am tired of it after 4 years so need to figure something different there, and I had too bright a pastel on the walls in the inside before redoing them last year. I like the muted light colors alot better.

Have fun and remember if you don't like it you can always paint over it!

This is a subject perfect for Google. I know some stores will sell a small paint sample so you can get a better idea than from a small chip - I just can't remember which ones do.

Here's one brand, though: Benjamin Moore has 2-ounce paint samples in many of its colors for $4.99

There may be others.

I can tell you this: do NOT buy cheap paint from Walmart. You will end up paying three times more and working three times harder when the cheap paint doesn't cover well in one coat! I know - I used to paint for a living and some of that cheap stuff is little better than colored water.

Also, it used to drive me batty when I used to watch those home-decorating shows (back when I had a TV!) - and people would be using a roller without a broom stick screwed into the handle. That's what that threaded hole is for - and it'll give you much better leverage and keep your face and body back from the splatters by having the longer handle. Also, if you're doing a lot of painting, see if you can't get it in 5 gallon buckets. There's a wire mesh thing that you hang over the side of the bucket to roll your roller on - and it's much more efficient than a roller tray!

Personally I would not go green because red and green = Christmas. I like a nice tan that is 1 -2 steps above white. BTW do you know that white comes in many colors? One of the better paint companies have a color chart of whites. There are pink white, blue white, grey white etc. They are all white but have different under tones.

I always paint white inside....makes off-grid lighting go further.
I can't imagine the need for anything fancy.....the novelty wears off shortly....unless you've got droves of infrequent visitors...but who really cares what they think?

Hah, no droves of visitors! Just us chickens! ;) I do like to make my home pleasant for myself, if for no one else.

I had a 'duh' moment earlier--- I was folding laundry and I have some sage green bath towels, so I laid one on the floor to see how the colors go together, and I do believe I'm going to go with some shade of sage green. I'll get some paint chips to select a hue/shade.

I agree about the Wal Mart paint--it's a waste of money because you have to use two or three coats which means two or three times the amount you'd use if you used a good quality paint. You'd likely end up spending more buying the crappy paint in order to cover the walls.

Since your floor is cherry, how about a straw color or something that would look like old parchment - kind of mediterranian?

Good luck! We moved in almost 2 years ago, and our BR is still primer! We keep changing our minds ::)

Gotta agree with Martin. Especially since I'm looking for white paneling & lino for the cabin, for that very reason. 12vdc LED's & CF lighting need the reflective boost.

IF there's an Ace Hardware near you, check out the color called fern park. I just used it in my dining room, and it's beautiful. Kind of a soft, gray/green with a hint of blue, but it's very subtle, keeps the room large and bright like a white would, but is more restful and soft.

I have a a warm, reddish/brown woodwork that is very eye-catching because it's real wood from 100 years ago, and the paint doesn't look too green against it.

It's an Ace Premium Paint, so it's more expensive, but worth it, it covers in one coat and is easy to work with.

Good luck with your project!

you can save a bunch by going through the "oops" inventory at the box stores -

You know it Moose. The oops rack has chosen many a paint job for me too, and it changes daily. I've even spoken with a few old paint people and sometimes they can put a squirt more of another color, and change it. You just have to convince them you'll buy it first.

White + Light = a sound mined and if you want a mood color try painting one wall with a nice mountain mural.
