Well, it still feels like a long vacation to me. Maybe that's because all I've done is what I'd do on a long vacation, rode my motorcycle down to FL to visit my mother. Got home Monday and recuperated. Then Tuesday DD came over with DGS and WSIL. Around 4pm she asked me to watch DGS while WSIL took her to the other ER. She was admitted and I've had the DGS ever since. Guess being a single father doesn't appeal to WSIL.
Anyway, we haven't even used the electronic babysitter. I set up his jumper next to Cluckingham Palace and let him supervise the both the chickens and Papa while I got some work done.

We took a break for a swim, had lunch, and then he fought his nap for about 30 minutes before he lost. The kids always pick him up and hold him when he fights it. Not Papa. Sit in the same room and let him cry himself to sleep. Slept for over three hours. Then Grammy took over for a few hours. By 9pm he was falling asleep, and by 915pm he was passed out in his crib with hardly any fuss at all. Planning to wear his little butt out with fresh air again today. Who needs Sprout TV or PBS?
There is one thing I have noticed, and enjoyed since I got back. I don't have to watch the clock and pack up my tools before I'm finished with what I wanted to do on any given day. Yesterday, although I took all day to do it, I did put up the fence around the intended garden plot. Today's plan is to clear out the old garden area and return it to clear ground to run chickens on.

Dear LeatherneckPA,
Howdy, LeatherneckPA! And a hearty salute for any and all service!
:)
Forgive me, though, I'm unclear on the acronyms. Who is DD, DGS, and WSIL?
???
One thing that's not in doubt, though. You have a precious little tyke there! He'll make a great little homesteader, I'm sure.

I'll trade you, my acronyms for yours.
DD = Dear Daughter (or darned daughter depending on the day)
DGS = Dear Grand Son (way too young for it to be anything else yet)
WSIL = WORTHLESS son-in-law, been with my DD for over four years. Has had four jobs in that time. None over 60 days. Currently not working. Professional sponge. Think 5'8" tall leech with a huge appetite for money but no inclination to earn it.
So what does TANSTAAFL! stand for?

well sounds like your SOB-WSIL has had some work to do.
Take him on a long ride and come back with an extra horse...kick his sissy ass, put him to cutting your lawn with a pair of tin snips...Give him a toothbrush and tell him your street looks dusty.
I would not put up with that crap from any boy who shows up at my house looking to date my little girl. A scared boyfriend is a good boyfriend...and a boyfriend with a job is the only kind that gets in this house.

wallsostone it's a LONG sad story dating back to January 2005. And according to my doctor he is one of the MAJOR reasons I was hospitalized and am currently on stress-buster meds. Unfortunately, the days of picking your DD's spouse are long gone. Not only did they get married without my consent, they got married without my knowledge. I found out three months after the fact.

I dissagree on the days are gone part. if When JR shows up here, he'll be chopping wood, milking cows or plow'n fields before he takes out my kid...that's how my father got in this house.
And God Help any Dolt who walks in this door with a face that looks like he fell face first into a tackle box...not gona have it...
if she loves him that much..she can spend all her life with him..I won't have it.

wyOmn ::) the idea of "S-S-S" has crossed my mind a time or two. ::)
wallsostone they don't live with me, so i don't have much to say about it. Although I have picked a out a great divorce lawyer. A female shark who LOVES sticking it to the guys. And I am in discussion with her about protecting my assets so WSIL can never claim them as community property after I die.

Good question. TANSTAAFL stands for "There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch." The acronym was made popular by libertarian Sci-Fi writer Robert A. Heinlein via his book The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress and spread further by libertarian economist Milton Friedman. For more details, feel free to read here:

TANSTAAFL is something you should tell your WSIL (rudely if necessary,) and it is a wise and loving lesson to impart to your DD (if you can still get through to her) and your precious DGS (it's definitely not too late for the lil' would-be homesteader.)
And if you spread TANSTAAFL worldwide to everyone you meet, I'll consider it more than an even trade in acronyms. It'll be a bargain, because if everyone lived by that insight, the world would be a better place.
