We slaughtered two hogs not too long ago and have a lot of fresh country ham slices. My wife needs to know some ways to cook it. Anyone got suggestions?
fried alongside some eggs and taters is about my favorite.
But how about scolloped potatoes and ham - just slice up onions, taters and layer with pieces of ham. Add cheese (velveta is my favorite - yea I know all about what I don't know about whats in it) and milk - maybe some salt and pepper - bake till potatoes are done.
Hubby makes a burbon/maple syrup sauce and throws the ham steaks on the bbq and bastes with the sauce - yum good
Mother throws ham steaks in the oven with pineapple rings and pineapple juice and brown sugar and bakes - yum
Grandmother poured coke over ham steaks and cooked in oven - another yummy one.
If all else fails stick it between 2 slices of bread with some mayo and tomato slices.

Fried Ham slices are the way to go! We eat fried ham once a week most of the time, so long as we can get it straight from the fresh pork we buy. I always like to dip mine in applesauce.
By the way, if any of you KY folks are looking for pork, I know of a place near in Fleming County that has great prices/quality on whole hogs.

Just a variation on anothers suggestion ~ for variety differnt taste tey your favorite root beer of DrPepper on them steaks you can marinade over night and grill 'em or put 1 cup of your choice per steak and oven bakes.
Leftover marinade can be simmered/reduced to make a glaze for the grilled ones if baking moderate temperature is best there is but a very fine line between a glaze and a whole lot of burned sugar!
Another favorite of mine is 2 tbs thousand Island Salad dressing and 2 double shots of Kahlua per steak marinade at least 12 hours in the fridge then grill again reducing the leftover marinade for a glaze you can either brush the glaze on in the last 5-7 minutes of grilling or just pour over after plating if the latter let i soak up the glaze for 6 to 8 minutes before digging in. The last one with grits is what I call my favorite ~ its just as yummy on thick 1" pork chops.
Good luck, let us know what you liked!

I am not a pro cook or chef with degrees or credentials...but I have been cooking for many many years and managed many restaurants. I worked at 2 casinos as Food and Beverage Manager and several full service restaurants as cook and manager....I rarely measure...sorry ...I cook to taste and from tried and true methods.
Moms Ham....
Select size and weight of ham...
trim the skin off and leave the fat...
pick the side you want to keep upright in the pan...
score the ham in diamond pattern 1/2 in deep all across the top
place ham on rack in lg pan with 1/2 in of water in pan cover with foil
bake at 250 2 hours to get all the pickleing juices out
drain the liquid and discard
glaze the ham put back in oven 30 mins
glaze the ham again put in for 15 mins
take out and let sit before you carve it
the scoring keeps the glaze on the ham
the glaze...
has to be thick... like plaster...really no thin stuff
1 pound of brown sugar
yellow prepared mustard
enough ground cloves to taste...1/8 teaspoon???
cloves is strong dont overdo
mix all these together to your taste
like more mustard
like less cloves
its all about taste
make extra glaze for dipping or smearing...lol
