Wanted to wish all my fellow BWH friends a good morning. I am off to work it is 3:45 here :( but someone has to bring home the bacon right?? This is the side of paying for the homestead that we don't want to brag about..we would rather be self supportive. However I have yet to figure out how to make that work, so until them I am still in the "grind." But fortunately I like my job. So how many of you are off to the "grind" today and do you like your job?

Good morning. I woke up at 4:50 ths morning and got ready for work. I am still in the grind, unfortunately. I'd love to be away from it once and for all, but currently, I need this to pay the bills and to sae for my slice of Heaven.

Yup..
I was up at 5:00 a.m. to start my 84 mi. round trip for the day.. :-/

Fortunately, I like the line of work that I'm in. I work in the electronics field and electronics is my hobby. I'm always building some kind of gizmo for something.. ;D

I'm working on the debts that I've collected in building this place. I'm proud to say that I've got most of them whooped and plan to retire in a couple of years. Then I can do my own thing.. ;)

Right now I have a farther trip to the porta potty outside than I do to my office. I think this new job saved my sanity because I was driving every day to a place I didn't like. Now I like what I am doing - no politics, or if there is it's spread clear across the country and I don't hear about it! Plus I get to solve puzzles and build software all day - something I like doing.

Hang in there Humbug, I remember working on that market garden to get out of the rat race. Now I am doing it for me more than for a living and it's much more enjoyable. It's alot of work to do both!

Good morning to you too, Humbug :D
Well, we have our own business that pays for itself but not always for our personal bills and needs. The property is adjacent to our home property and is about a three minute walk or a ten second quad ride away. We both take whatever temporary or odd jobs come our way to keep our heads above water.
While we don't work for "The Man", we still put in very long hours that leave no time for homesteading projects.
Whoever said self employment was just glorified poverty hit the nail on the head.

Good morning campers. I rolled out of bed at 8:47am this morning. Had my oatmeal, raisins, and walnuts for breakfast. read my e-mail, and now I'm fooling around here.

But in 30 minutes I have to drag that "ol' ball and chain" off to prison. And from what I read on my two homesteading forums that's pretty much the way the vast majority look at that necessary income producing venture which requires them to leave their little slice of heaven.

The difference is that I am not being metaphorical. I REALLY do have to go to prison!! 160 minutes of driving and $36 dollars of gas every day. But HEY, it's only for 200 more calendar days or 94 working days.

When people say they can get used to most anything, I would have to say they are right. 23 years ago I quit, and then let the LT talk me into at least finishing my probationary year. Now I'm the LT, and trying to make these kids understand they have to prepare for their retirement because it is coming faster than they could ever believe.

The sad part is, I like my job, just not the commute.

It was 0500 this morning when I got up to go to work. Im a retired corrections officer with 25 years in. I took a year and a half off after retirement to build our cabin and get ready to build our retirement house. My tractor broke down so I bought a new one and decided to go back to work to pay it off. I love my job and work for two great bosses. I work in investment recovery at a local power company. It's the sewage drain field of the company where the crap (spelled with an s ) is trucked it. some interesting stuff comes my way that is helping with the cabin. If it's broken , I can fix it.

I worked for the county/city jail in spokane county and I started in 1970 with king county in seattle for three years. After that first three years I said never again and was out of corrections for 5 years then got back to it again in 1978. Whoduv thunk it? It made for an interesting lifestyle. I should have written a book but no one would have believed it.

LOL, that is probably the most common saying I've ever heard in the Bureau, "When I write my book...." Funny thing is, I've never seen one actually written. Like you said, nobody would believe it anyway. Why not? Because your officers would not all be knuckle-dragging sadistic Neanderthals and you thugs would not all be innocent, unjustly persecuted by-products of a society that never gave them a fair shake. In other words, you'd tell the truth, not Hollywood's version of it. People don't want to be reminded that there are real rapists, murderers, and drug dealers out there to prey upon their children and them. better stop this rant before I get wound up, that could be a REAL long one!!!
