In the "Backwoods Home Cooking" cookbook there are a few recipes for in-a-jar cookies.
I would like some in-a-jar recipes for main course meals, soups, stews and desserts.
There are lots of them on the internet - and these are great - but I would really enjoy having some from any members who would like to pass them along. I'm especially interested if they include spice bags, dehydrated fruits & veggies, unique add-ins, etc.

Jackie has some good ones in her canning book. Highly recommend that book and am anxiously awaiting the new cookbook--just ordered it yesterday.

DH ordered a book which just arrived called Dinner Is In The Jar by Kathy Clark ISBN 9781450550925.
Its not large, about 70 pages but it is designed for the individual to make dinner mixes in either Mason jars or mylar bags. Put the dry ingredients in the jar, often with seasonings in a separate bag in the jar. Recipes have any add-on ingredients (diced tomatoes, canned chicken etc) listed. It even has pages for the labels with preparation directions which can be photocopied and attached to the jar.
I haven't tried it yet but it looks good for some quick and simple meals. I think it will also make an interesting gift for the neighbors this Christmas. It looks like something that would be fun to work on with the grandkids.

I have been given / made "cute" recipes in a jar to give as gifts. The thing I have learned about them is they are a relatively short shelf life. Say a couple months at most.
I believe this is because some of the spice stuff will not last that long without growing hair.... That was my experience anyway..........
Anyone have experiences with "recipes in jars" that can be stored a couple years or more ?
I'm thinking soups, pasta, things with a package of onion soup mix type spice kit that will last a while. Or fore ever............
I have a bunch of plastic quart (miracle whip) type jars that I would like to make up complete meals in, and not just one ingredient.
Any one with experience of this type ?...............
Enjoy
if you look at the archived forums at homesteading today you will find about 200 recipes for meals in a jar

This is an excellent recipe! I made up a batch last week. Have used it for mushroom soup, and as the white sauce in creamed onions with a crumb top.

I received the book. It is well worth every penny even the DW liked it. Now is the big decision do we buy a dehydrator or buy the foods already dehydrated? Still trying to decided but leaning towards buying a dehydrator.
