Nancy requested some winter pictures of Deberosa but I know others have beautiful winter pictures too. Besides, I am a bit hesitant to post on a thread with my name in the title - this isn't all about me. ::)

Winter here is usually very green. Nancy wanted white - and there was one storm here that would qualify. It happened three months after I moved in. Haven't seen more than a few inches of snow since. I was snowed in for 4 days (well, as far as I was concerned!) I probably could have gotten out to the road after 2 days but why bother? I did learn a valuable lesson in this storm, if it's going to snow alot - OPEN YOUR GATE! I had to shovel a path for my gate to open!

THis storm dumped 22 inches of wet snow overnight. Lost power for part of it, and it was before I had any animals except the dogs well, and the yard rabbits...
I have a real flimsy cover on my deck - had to get out in the storm and sweep snow off of what I could reach - then decided to crank up the wood stove and open the doors - this brought the deck to 50 degrees and melted the weight of the snow from the cover!

I am sure the rest of you have winter stories that could top mine, but it was quite an adventure for me being new to homesteading!

Here are some pictures:

Two weeks later I had this - that bunny had babies to feed!

Beautiful pictures Deberosa.
the top and third from top look almost identical to the way the woods look where my husband is trapping; we were up there today. but no snow down here; pretty unusual for n. Mt in Dec\jan; but as we know the weather patterns they are a changing, no?
thank you for sharing.

Thanks, and yes it sure seems like the weather is changing. Not sure what is causing it. In Denver I thought it was the increasing acreage of pavement and people. The heat just got stored up.

Yeah, but I sure was liking being snowed in! "Sorry, I simply can't make it to work today!" ;) Of course now that's no excuse for me!

Absolute heaven!
Don't i wish.
Do you know that some of those pines, i white pine have more vitamin c than 5 oranges.
The indians made tea with it. It has 5 long stems in one clump at a time.
Oh, how i envy anyone who can live where there are lots of trees and some open space for a house. Even a trailer would do for me.
Oh, oh, oh, i can't tell you what these pics have done for me today.
We are just beginning to get a little snow here, and i do me little.
We are doing ok here, some pines, some space, some snow.
Thanks for the pics, you'all. love, alma

Deb, this was about you because your place is so beautiful in the summer I knew it had to be beautiful with winter up on it. And it is very beautiful. ::) So back at you girl. LOL :)

Those pictures could be on Halmark cards.

I can't blame you for not minding being snowed in. It must be very peaceful.

Thanks for posting them.

Those pictures look like my place in eastern washington with the acception of the rabbits. ours are snow shoe hairs and are all white. They start turning white about late sept and remain that way untill march.

Waterlilly, your pictures are great - sounds like you only get a storm once in a while too!

Flatwater- those bunnies were the first of the horde! The neighbor turned loose 4 rabbits just before I moved in. They set up housekeeping in the quarter acre of brambles that buried the barn before I cleared them out. Then they scattered to places in the barn and under my deck. By June these bunnies had bunnies and siblings and cousins... I had over 120 rabbits here in June of that year. They ate everything, dug holes, stole the chicken feed. I had to do a bit of a bunny masacre because I couldn't catch them. The babies I would catch and take boxes to the farmers market with a "FREE" sign!

It got to be a real joke around here. They would be sitting on my lawn furniture - hopping everywhere!

My neighbor got this yesterday after 2 days of 40 degrees, a short rain shower, and a burst of sunlight, and right BEFORE a sub-zero plunge.

That picture is awsome. I would enlarge it and hang it on my wall.
