I'm being very very quiet like a mouse, but I had to tell ya'll! I am waiting for my VSO's settlement to come in for the down payment by the end of Feb, and then travel over 3000 miles to check it out.

It has an old farmhouse that has been redone. It is on more than 40 acres, and is fenced and cross-fenced, has outbuildings for our critters, nice growing land, long-term native grass pastures, a corral. It is on the edge of a town that has less than 500 people in it, and is off-interstate in the middle of farming country. Best of all it is well within our price range.

Shhhh... ;D ;D ;D :-X :-X :-X

The pictures are beautiful... I can't wait... I'm doing a Chair-Riverdance - where only my feet are moving, I'm so anxious! I have been in contact with the agent, who also happens to be the owner, who has to get rid of the house because it has become too much... already we have found out that we have a lot in common (which I could tell just by what was in the pictures).

More later... once I go out and see if I can find out what is wrong with it if anything :'( and if we will be able to overcome it...
;D ;D ;D

Can't tell you how happy I am... I've been looking for this for over a year, watching places I liked slip away as we waited for the hearing....

Well, I didn't believe it. We'd started looking in ID, where my brother lives, but it was so overpriced due to all of the Californians coming in. WY and MT, same thing. So we'd decided on ND and SD, maybe MN, or MO. Nothing against all ya'll Oregoneans and Washingtonians, but the humidity as well as an increasing population is something I am trying to get away from... plus I have seen Mt St Helen's closeup, and have an irrational fear of it. It is habit for me to look at the webcam that watches it! And, well, Utah... lots of nice folk but lots of rules and a very odd political climate, plus like ID - overpriced.

Because many realtors do not list their properties on MLS, only on their own webpages, and few have enough hits to put them anywhere near the first 10 pages of Google hits, I was skipping around the Internet, and someone sent me to a page that referenced all sorts of small realtors with land for sale in that region. I went down the list, clicking on each one, looking at their properties, going back to the homepage, clicking the next, not really realizing which states they were in. I saw this pretty one, and suddenly realized - it was in Nebraska! Hmm. Who knew?

Thanks for all of your well-wishes... A local friend of mine with a website has offered me space on his server to put up a webpage whenever I move, to detail my experiences and to stay in touch. He is very SHTF, TEOTWAWKI - minded, and says he is too old (84) to move out of the city now. He still wants to do it vicariously, though!

Oh, yes, TY, Texanne! There will be pics...

We really really really wanted snow and four defined seasons... And it isn't all flat like I thought it was. Odd how one's ideas about an area are formed by minimal input. We've both lived in TX, and as much as we liked the area (San Antone, Beaumont, New Braunfels) and the people, it was just too far south for the snow we wanted.

The owner/agent has already been very honest about repairs (nothing structural) that need to be done. She's even told me the best places on the property to put my greenhouse, etc! All sight unseen. And invited me to join her artist's group! How cool is that...

I get to be a "Coyote" for real now... A Cornhusking Coyote? :o ;D

Wiley..congratulations.

I have to agree that prices of real estate in the west have gotten way out of reason. I looked in Oregon last summer...talk about sticker shock.

I would have never considered Nebraska. I did look at some in Wisconsin. ...sigh...I think I still have those itchey feet that love to travel.
