have new seed catalogs started to come in? I got one from Pinetree and one from Indiana berries so far.
It is always so tempting looking through a catalog.

We've received Parks and Baker Creek so far. Have many more items of interest than I have room to grow. I'm giving serious thought to filling in the in-ground swimming pool to increase productive land area.

Maybe you don't have the same problems I have but I wish I had an inground swimming pool so the sun could warm the irrigation water a bit before putting it on my gardens. This cool summer my yield was substantially reduced because of the ice cold water coming from the well combined with little warmth during the day. You may get just as much productivity pumping that water onto existing gardens as you would with the extra space!

As for catalogs, I haven't gotten as many as I had hoped at this point but did get Fedco, Pine Tree Seeds, One Green World among all of the usual suspects. ;-)

This year I am thinking of reducing the number of varieties instead of buying one of everything! Especially with squash.

Oh yeah! You and Cindy would get along JUST FINE. First we order WAY more seeds than we need. Then we plant the WHOLE packet. Of course, we have no where to put them all, put that doesn't stop her.

Isn't that the way you are supposed to do it? ;-)

exactly, and all the seedlings that come up and you have to transplant everyone because you can not stand to see them die...

We got Jungs and Stark Bros. today. Lots of goodies in those magazines but I'm really looking at the fruits and nuts for this spring. I figured the orchard needs a few years to develop so I better concentrate on that as soon as possible.

Baker Creek is the one I have been thumbing through since the catalog came. This is my first year getting it. It's very impressive.

Gurney's came in yesterday. I really like this catalog. Anyone ordered from them before?

Mine, too, MadTripper. I started with Gurney's years ago. They have pretty good basic stuff, nothing over the top, herbs are very cheap and their seed is fairly prolific. Not as fancy as some catalogs, but a good workmanlike order.

Although I really REALLY like Johnny's Seed, especially for the true heirloom varieties - if you live in a place that has a LOT of bugs and molds and diseases, the hybrids at Gurney's are passable. And Johnny's is more expensive, too. I order from both per my needs.

I ALWAYS have too many seeds for the planting area! One of the reasons we built a greenhouse - especially if a cold snap knocks out the garden, we have replacements.

We have found Gurney's to be pretty decent. I love the varieties, esepcially the heirloom stuff from Johny's. We usually order the majority from Burpee's. But this year Baker Creek and Johny's will be our primary sources, since we are planning to focus nearly all our efforts on heirlooms.

For fruits and nuts you HAVE to get a catalog from Miller's Nursery. The whole things is nothing but fruit and nut trees. Fantastic.

I used Gurney's last year but I'm not a fan. *I wasn't too impressed. *It seems the seeds the little store down the road sells grow a lot better for our garden. *I am planning on trying Baker's Creek this year since I've never done heirloom before. *I'm not planning on doing too much this year.

In the past we used Gurney's mostley. the last two years we use R H Shumway's for the major part of our seeds. I like Shumway's for bulk prices.

Well, my growing season is year-round with the greenhouse, and all too often when I am ready to plant my starts, the seeds aren't due in locally for six weeks or more. As much as I prefer to buy locally, "locally" means waiting for their schedule. And the local Wal Mart doesn't get their seeds and starting stuff and Jiffy pots until MAY - which is 80 degrees here already! Way too late for starts. Most people who haven't been gardening around here for very long buy their seeds and plants too late. I buy my starting equipment (flats, cells, etc) in January!

Got Henry Fields, Baker Creek, Gurney's and a bunch of others.
MAD - I've used Gurney's and until last year didn't have any trouble. They totally goofed up the order, and by the time they delivered it to us, it was waaay to late for the plants to grow much into anything before the winter snows... I have used the Steele Plant Company before too, and until last year they were good too. They never even responded to my online order, never credited my card for my order, and never responded to emails...will try them again this year, but if I don't hear back w/in a week, I'll find someone else.

I've had VERY good luck with Henry Fields...
