Has anyone tried using gin soaked raisin to help with arthriitis pain? I have RA and the disease is under control at the moment. I do have a good deal of pain from all the prior joint damage. My Mom found an article in the paper about using raisins. I figure it can't hurt anything to give it a shot. If it doesn't work I'll just make me a gin and tonic and call it a day.

Here is one of the recipes I found on the web. They are all about the same.

Take a box of golden raisins. (note: they must be the golden variety, sometimes called white raisins, not ordinary black raisins).

Place the raisins in a shallow container.

Cover the raisins with gin.

Let the raisins soak in the gin for a few weeks until the gin evaporates.

You then eat nine of these drunken raisins a day to help your arthritis. (note: nine a day is the number you see most often, but you'll find many variations of the number).

Not sure what the medicinal value of the gin is, but 9 soaked raisins a day isn't going to hurt the average person and it might help. My great great great was a medicine woman and she used spider webs to stop bleeding when there were cuts and later it was determined that there's a substance in the webs that causes clotting! I'd say it was worth a try (although I hate gin in particular and can't drink in general.)

From what I gathered, it's the Juniper berries in the gin that makes it work. Time will tell.

I've heard of dried cherries soaked in vodka. Use a few drops of the elixir 2x daily to help arthritis pain.
