I understand the concept of the fully rifled slug barrel, and using sabot ammo.
As opposed to using rifled slugs (Foster style) in smooth bore barrels.
Ok Now........
Does anyone have any experience with sabot ammo in a rifled choke tube ?
Have been wondering if it would work, or be a not so good idea, with expensive ammo.
I'm going to suspect the rifled part of the choke tube is too short to work well with sabot ammo.
What does anyone know about this ?
Share your experience, or thoughts.

PS.......... Does anyone know the size / number of the Viton material "O" ring to use on a Remington 12 ga. model 11/87 ???

I'd like to know this myself. The price of the tube, plus $3 to $5 a round, hasn't exactly pushed me into an experiment.

I'm not a big fan of SABOT slugs but you asked, I have an older wingmaster and had the bbl adapted for choke tubes and I have found that the rifled tube dramatically improves the accuracy of the plain old foster slugs, never tried it with sabots, I just fail to see the need. As it is she shoots 6" to 8" groups at 100 yards with Win, Rem, or Fed fosters and that's plenty good enough for my purposes if I need better than that at 100 I have plenty of options starting with a pre 64 M94 SRC.
I do find that she tends to like the 3" Mags a little better, they all seem more consistent from shot to shot than the 2 3/4" ers.

I was just curious. For serious, fairly accurate power, I have a New England Firearms Handi Rifle in 45-70 Government. I don't quite know why, as I don't hunt. I just wanted one.

Like Gunsmoke stated Sabots for Full rifle barrell and Fosters can prove tighter groups using choke tube. Here in Ohio it is rare to see anyone using choke tubes on Deer with foster style slugs, and fedarals may be the exception Fed + Choke tube= better results
Winchester "Buckmasters" + choke tube = These slugs shoot almost results of Sabot and rifled barrel at half the cost.

In my fully rifled Brownings I use double slugs they are very rifle-like in performance 3" spread at 150m off hand.
As far as SABOTs go the only to ever inpress me is the SAUVESTRE (Google). When first imported they were reasonably priced now when you can find them they can go upward of $10/round but then you've got cape buffalo/elephant class medicine in a 12 ga sort of a light .458 WIN MAG HEAVY.45-70. I'm glad I scooped a stash when they were being imported, they ride in my Benelli M3s

I got a rifled tube in a 28'' 870 barrel and it shoots very well, but since I have a bead on it and no sights (yet) I can only tell you they shoot great from what I can tell.

Have you considered a double bead?
My older brother has a cut down 1100 20ga with a REM hoke rifled tube Vent Rib with a double bead its his "HOUSE GUN"
Front bead is a great big HONKING Williams "IVORY" and the rear is a TINY polished brass. It is very quick to the shoulder and acquire the target and I've shot it with BRENEKEs out to 75 yards and its a dream machine!

I only use it for hunting, and not very often, I have an improved cylinder Police Barrel with Rifle sights I keep on it for 'daily' use. It shoots foster slugs VERY well and I will probably hunt with it some this year in a thicket. I have the rifled choke tube because........ it was there and I bought it? LOL only the 28'' bbl is threaded for screws in, so I thought I'd give it a try.

I've double lunged quite a few deer with my old 26" Ithaca with foster slugs (it likes federals) at 80-100 yds, its a smooth bore.

Let me see if I can answer your question.
I belonged to a hunt club where only shotguns were legal for deer hunting. (It has since changed, allowing rifles.)
To me, buckshot and Foster slugs from a smooth bore weren't accurate enough or allowed any distance for a clean kill. I saw a lot of deer lost by other members who didn't understand (or care) about the limitations of their shotguns.
I had a Remington 870 "Express" for turkey hunting w/ an X-tra Full screw-in choke. I bought the rifled choke and mounted a 4X scope on that 870.
Using Remington "Copper Solids", their sabot performance slug, that short little 870 would shoot 3"-4" groups at 100yds all day. I was amazed at what a few inches of rifled choke screwed onto the end of the barrel would do regarding accuracy.
Yes, I did kill deer with it. Some were actually over 100yds. I also have a bolt-action Marlin 12ga with a fully rifled barrel. With it, I killed deer as well. One was paced out at 165yds. using the Copper Solids.
