We have a Scholastic Book Warehouse here and every year they hold a huge sale in Dec, and May, when they let the public come in and shop. Everything is on sale from 80% to 25% off. Most books are 50% off.

They have a program that you can go in and "volunteer" to work the sale, and they "pay" you $10.00 an hour, except they pay you in books. You can shop the entire warehouse and still get the same sale prices everyone else does.

I just signed up to work 36 hours this year. That means I will be earning $360.00 in 1/2 price books--so if you look at it this way I am getting $720.00 worth of books. Most of them are childrens, and young adult. But they have adult books too, novels, cookbooks, crafting/scrapbooking/how-to's/etc also.

I will use it for my Christmas shopping, teachers gifts, gifts for my own kids, and then will stash some of the books to use as gifts for when my kids get invited to other kids birthday parties during the year.

The website is http://www.scholastic.com/bookfairs/events/warehouse/ they list the warehouses by state so you can check to see if there is one near you.

What a great deal. I'd volunteer too, as my DD goes through tons of books.

Have fun shopping:)

Jonvee,

You might want to keep checking back as I have already been emailed by the supervisor of our local warehouse, about the Dec sale, but the sale schedule hasnt been posted on the Scholastic website yet.

Also one more tip, if there is a warehouse in your area they should list a phone #, call the warehouse directly instead of emailing through the website you may get faster results getting on a schedule.

Will keep an eye out for one of these here. With 3 granddaughters, my daughter, SIL, and myself we read a lot of books. The third grader is reading from fifth to seventh grade books depending on what she likes. First grader has been reading since kinder and the 5 yr. old memorizes the kiddie books she likes. I could really use a bargain like this.
