Hey guys,
it’s been a while since I’ve been online, personal changes and professional pressures have kept my priorities away from my favorite homesteading forum.
On Monday, sweetheart lost her job.
She was told that her last day would be in two weeks.
Unfortunately we are nowhere near prepared to up and move to the country (which is Beautifully colored right now) since we’re still in the “paying off debt” stage of our homesteading goals. So we’ve got to bunker down, scrimp, and hopefully get another job before things get worse.
I thought it was kinda odd that I felt somewhat excited knowing we’ve Already come so far paying down debt, and with all the canned stuff I’ve made or hoarded over the past year, we’re really not too bad. I have experienced much less panic, knowing we were more prepared than we would have been, and much more prepared than we were months ago. Despite being in the city, this homesteading mind frame really makes me feel like we’re on the right path.
On Tuesday, a day after the news, and on a whim, Andy applied for a position at a store within walking distance from our home. Retail industry pays horribly and I also have issues with the whole supply/demand/corporations profiting stuff within that industry to boot, but a job is a job and my personal opinion is to be thankful and never think that you are “above” any kind of work. Just be thankful. The good news is the owner of the store was absolutely thrilled she applied, because he just happens to need a manager to oversee the smooth operation of two retail stores. He offered an above average salary too.
So this week has been kinda hectic, Monday loosing a job and having confirmed a better one by Thursday.
I believe that it can be a Good thing to receive this type of wake up call every now and then. We should never get comfortable because that leads to taking things for granted. I believe that is one of the worst of all things, greed and taking the true pleasures of life for granted.
So, perhaps this thread is just to say hello from your Canadian friend. That I normally read everyone’s posts despite not always replying, and that I am hoping everyone has had a productive September and that the crops have blessed your families.
God bless everyone!
