the weather people are predicting ash here in the ozarks within a couple of days . time to be ready . the animals' food/water will be under the center of the carport in huge pans that hold 50 lbs each . we are adding extra apple cider and other juices , more face masks , gloves , wipes , batteries , peanut butter and jelly , and anything else easy to use in a high stress time . we will have the whole family inside most of the time . i'm hoping electricity won't be effected . satelite and internet are always iffy around here . lots of books are waiting to take our minds off problems . CHRISTIANS PLEASE PRAY FOR EVERYONE FACING THE GROWING NUMBERS OF EMERGENCIES . MAY JESUS CHRIST BLESS YOU ONE AND ALL !!!! breezemommy

Just curious where you heard this about ash in your area Breezemommy, do you have a link?

I made reference in another post here to the possible effects of some of the volcanic activity in Indonesia happening right now. However, note that the repercussions, IF there are any that might affect your area, would take quite a long time to show up. And if there is any ash fallout, I think the most we would see is weird colors in the sunset, but not ash actually falling like snow, in North America at least. That is my understanding of how far ash travels in the atmosphere.

In a documentary I recently watched about the "supervolcano" underneath the Yellowstone area (which I would not worry about!), they showed at one point the different ash fallout zones in the USA. The map displayed showed that, if the Yellowstone volcanoes did erupt (so, a volcano right in the USA), the ash fallout on the east coast would only be about 1 cm or so.

So, for volcanoes that are on the other side of the world, I don't think you would actually see any ash fallout at all in the Ozarks is what I am saying.

An extended volcanic eruption anywhere could cause climatic change however...but this would take quite a while to appear. When a very large volcano exploded in Indonesia in 1815, it did cause a small change in temperatures, but it took a year to show up in North America.

I am just saying, that I would not worry about ash fallout where you are at all right now.

Well, I found this, http://www.kentucky.com/2010/10/28/1498983/russias-kamchatka-volcanoes-spew.html
Along with various articles about the Indonesian one that went of the other day as well. But nothing about any sort of major ash reaching as far eat as the Ozarks. Anyone in the more western states on any sort of watch for this?

Ok - 8 more volcanoes have raised their status levels. This might get interesting....

All we have to do is look at the fallout from Mt. St. Helens to see how bad it was and how far the heavy ash fell. I'm sure that the populated areas will be broadcasting air quality alerts that we can tune in, or maybe the weather bulletins on the weather radio. But I don't think we will see heavy ash this far around the globe, let alone in the Ozarks.

What I do see is a colder winter and probably cooler summer next summer. :(

Boy, you people need to chill out just a little. I lived in Washington when Mt St. Helens erupted, and I can tell you, THAT was living through an eruption! At 3PM the sky got completely dark, and all the streetlights came on. At 4pm the ash started falling, much like a very gentle snowfall after dark. Then, the ashfall in our area was about 1/2 inch thick, thick enough to leave footprints where you walked.

There was a shortage of 3M style masks, and you couldn't drive your car because the ash was basically powdered glass that would scratch the cylinders from the inside out. But, more a massive inconvience rather than life or death. They closed WSU for about a week. Anybody that didn't finish out the semester though was labeled a total wimp!

I still have my bottle of volcanic ash that I scraped off the sidewalk outside the house. More likely than not, the only thing different you'll notice is a slightly prettier sunset than usual.

Worst case senario would be a Huckleberry ridge type explosion here at yellowstone or a Mt. Toba type elsewhere (Toba is biggest geologists have found, close to 3000, Mt. St Helens). Either one would have global implications, besides just ash. Think of two YEARS of crop failures.......

Most SHTF preps apply for mild forms of this. In addition air filters for machinery and people.

Well, did she make it?

I get msnbc updates all the time at work, nothing yet about ash hitting USA.
Also get CDC and terror alert emails too.

On another site there was a guy that preached doom, end of days, every year was last one.
When new year came, started all over again, got old big time.
My Great-grandmother told me the white man messed up the weather when they landed on moon.
