I made the "poorman's feast" last night for dinner really good. I am a super picky eater and I really liked this. I did add some onions/garlic/carrots to the lentils, I didn't think it would be too nice with no seasoning.

Another great source is a series of 5 books available on Amazon titled " Stories and Recipes of the Great Depression" by Rita Van Amber. Recipes are all scratch and wonderful. The stories are awe inspiring!

I love Clara! I found her through a thread at www.discusscooking.com.. Anyway, I made the Poor Man's Meal two weeks ago, and my family loved it. The only thing I did differently, was use smoked sausages in place of regular hot dogs. My family prefers them when we grill, so I figured they'd go over better in the skillet. Next time, I plan to use some sliced ham I found on sale. This is a great basic recipe that begs to be played with.
