I bought a grain mill and some wheat on line . I am so excited! I can't wait for delivery. I didn't buy the top of the line cause I just could'nt pay that much . The mill I bought got pretty good reviews though.I also went to bread Beckers(sp?) I got some wheat and a cookbook and some yeast ordered. I ordered some from a link on here to a survival food company too. Wish I had gone there first. Shipping and product pricing were way less.:)

What grain mill did you get and where did you get it? I like the idea of grinding my own grain, but is there any other benefits? Keep us up dated when you get it.

Good for you Calli!

I just ordered another 100# of wheat myself. That brings us up to around 400# total in storage.

I saved for many months to be able to afford my Countryliving grain mill. I got a good deal on it and the corn and bean auger and a repair kit.
Wasn't too thrilled with the company I bought from, but now that I have it, I could care less.

Wait until you taste things made with fresh ground grains.Much better than flour thats been sitting in a warehouse for who knows how long.

Have fun with your mill!

I bought mine through Amazon. I looked at some of the more expensive ones , but couldn't cough up the money. As far as health benefits
I read some of breadbeckers testimonials and they kind of convinced me. Plus I read on a food storage site about how many of the nutrients and minerals, they take out of processed wheat I think it is like 27, before they "enrich It" with four nutrients. My thinking is that the natural whole wheat before it is stripped and enriched can only add to health. I will let you know if I notice any changes once I get started.:)

Did you go for a hand grinder or an electric version? Definetly something I wanna get into. I have been dreaming of making an outdoor bread oven.

Super dooper, calliesue!

I read a quote once that said "Calling it enriched bread is like taking away all of someone's clothes, giving them back their socks and underwear, and calling them enriched". lol

I bought a hand-cranked grinder for emergencies. And I've got about 200# of wheat in long-term storage so far. We have been baking with it, and love it. So now an electric grinder is on our wish list.

I got a "Back to basics" grain mill from Walmart.com(handcrank), and used it to make some flour out of seeds I harvested from my Redbud trees. It took what seemed like forever to do(had to run it through several times), but the end product turned out pretty good. I plan to try making flour out of acorns this comming fall if I can beat the squirrels to them.

Let us know how that acorn flour comes out. That sounds interesting.
