We are having new shingles put on our house by a family friend soon and I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas of what to do with the old shingles instead of just throwing them away.
I've thought of using them on other outbuildings we will build in the future, just wondering if anyone else had any other ideas?
Thanks

If they're asphalt, they won't be in any shape to be re-used after they're taken off. If wood, I would save them for a lot of uses.

You could line a ditchline with them, use for fire accelerant, maybe soften in solvent and patch paved driveway-Kevin
If Asphalt of course

If they are asphalt you need to dispose of them properly because they are a contaminate. If they are cedar they make great kindling, bird houses , wall coverings , shims etc. etc.

and by disposing of them properly doesn't mean burning. If you burn them or don't dispose of them properly you can get heavy fines.

Oh, we plan on just letting the roofers rent a dumpster and it will be picked up the next day by the trash company and they deal with it the way they normally do.
I was just wondering if there was any reason I should keep them, was there any use out of them? Sounds to me I'm better just letting them go. They are asphalt.
Didn't know anything about them, so thought I would pick everyone's brain! :)
