The Ace Hardware store in a nearby city had 2009 vegetable seeds for 10 cents and 25 cents per packet yesterday! I bought seeds! BOY, did I buy seeds! ;D

Also, as a side note, the local "ChinaMart" also had their seeds out yesterday - for $1.00/pack.... Needless to say, I didn't buy any there!

Boris - keep at eye out if you have an Ace Hardware around you - don't know if ALL of the Aces have them at that price, but it's worthwhile to check it out. Sometimes the Walgreens have the seeds at discounted prices, too.
I'm going to try to lay in enough seeds for 5 years. That way, if there's a shortage, I'm covered for awhile until I can come up with other sources.

I have an ace about 10 miles away Ill check out tomorrow and report back. Hey no a bad idea about stocking up... how are you going to store them. I was thinking since I have dozens of formula cans that I might put them in there with some kind of desiccate. Or I am being overly paranoid?

nope, you're not being paranoid - you must keep them really really dry. I've got some old metal flour and sugar canisters with really tight fitting lids, and if I get enough seeds, I just use one of my 50# metal lard cans with a really tight-fitting lid.

I checked out ace today and the do-it best locally owned store. but I guess its too early to have seeds out in Michigan. Home Depot has them out, but kinda pricey right now. I did however pick up a hotwater heater jacket for 50 % off since someone returned it. good buy!
