I'm trying to select a book on rainwater catchment and wanted to get the opinions of folks who have such books.
Forget Design for Water. I borrowed that from the library and it is more theoretical than practical.
Got any suggestions or reviews on rainwater catchment and storage books?

Interested myself.
I read that its illegal in colorado. Always confused me.
I have 6 poly totes, like 350 gallons, with a wire cages around them. Leather soap was in them. Been saving them for this.
Metal roof and alum. Gutters first.

Heres's a great link to a PDF. When I was doing my class on the subject I just searched google. Everything I needed was there.
I would search out your local codes first. Is it legal? How big of a system can you do with out a permit?
Its a great idea but can be costly. If you where doing it rather than drill a well it can/will pay off. If you are on city water and doing it to say good bye to the city it will take a long time to pay back.

I don't like to ditto posts but this one is worth an extra "attaboy." Some Texans are doing some amazing water catch tricks.

''Alledgedly ...A law was passed 2 years ago that gave the US Govt sole ownership of all water rights in the 48 states both public and private. It was done in quiet.... This in theory makes it illegal for anyone to harvest rainwater. Also...the well you dig is supposed to be GPS'd and registered into the USGS records of all owners of wells are to be accessable for/by the GVT for their knowledge of its existence....
Now.... I dont know how true all this is...but it doesnt surprise me one bit!

Thanks for the links, folks. The Texas Manual on Rainwater Harvesting pdf is now in my library :). Also the pdf RAINWATER CATCHMENT DESIGN AND INSTALLATION STANDARDS by the American Rainwater Catchment Systems Association, which I found over on the linked to harvestH2O.com.
Rick, harvestH2O.com has an article which says Colorado has just taken "baby steps" to ease home rainwater catchment. But the Western states have a long history of water ownership rights and regulation.
cuppajoe, I heard the same thing about the U.S. gov owning all water now. I can't verify it either. And it doesn't surprise me either. :-S
Reading the Texas Manual now...
