I recently discovered a local "hauler's" auction. Boy, wish I had found this resource years ago! I save a ton of $ on everything from food to power tools.
How 'bout a complete, working Shopsmith for $200? 12 large cans of green beans for $8? Huge jugs (48oz) of Ragu spaghetti sauce for $2 each? The "haulers" are guys who have access to less-than-perfect stuff that retailers or producers can't sell retail because of a labeling error, weight/filling error, loose or missing labels, etc. Seldom, if ever, is it out of date. Two weeks ago, a guy brought in a semi-trailer load of Omaha Steaks meat that was right at the sell-by date. I loaded up on choice meat at less-than-hamburger prices. I'll bet that these auctions exist everywhere. I found this one by accident so can't tell you how to find one, but it's more than worth the effort required to look, ask, read. Where's mine? About a mile north of Seville, FL on the west side of Hwy 17. See you there? Hauler sales every Friday night at 7PM, livestock auctions when animals available. See you there? I'll be wearing my Backwoods Home Magazine shirt.

I wonder if most trucking companies have auctions like that. I had not heard of them before. Thanks for the info.

The refused pallets at the trucking co's usually go to the insurance co's - that send them to the haulers auctions.

Where did you think that places like 'Big Lots' get a lot of their stock. There are different levels so go prepared to handle a 2500 lb pallet if you have a use for the stuff. I once paid $81 for a pallet of mixed broken cases of canned goods, less than 1/3 were dirty and less than 10% were dented, 1 big can was broken and leaking.
