When I moved back into my house, I discovered what alot of damage the tenants did to the floors. The linoeum is all cut up and the carpet looks like ritual murders have taken place in spots.
Is there any product that will repair linoleum? I`ve got gouges that are about 2" in diameter.
Does anyone know which type of carpet cleaning machine does a good job? I really need to get a good machine in here, as, I cannot afford to rip up my carpets and replace them. I do not want to hire a company to clean them.

An old article in BHM might help. If the carpets are that bad, I don't know that they are salvageable. Hope this helps.

You can take a scrap piece of linoleum, lay on top of the old, match the pattern edges and tape down. Then cut a patch out but your knife should go through both pieces. Then you lift the damaged area out and replace with the patch you just cut. It should fit perfect like inlaying wood.

For the carpets, i just cleaned a filthy one yesterday. Wet the dirtiest areas well with spray bottle of your rug shampoo mixture. Sprinkle with Sal Soda (or Arm and Hammer laundry detergent) scrub with a hand brush using lots of elbow grease. Sprinkle more sal soda on top and then proceed using the carpet machine and do the whole floor. Sal Soda is good at removing protein stains.

That procedure worked pretty good. I believe even if you just sprinkled the whole carpet with sal soda before cleaning it would help a lot and it makes the carpet smell clean, too.

Hi Penny,
I did use Arm And Hammer on alot of the stains. I also have used CRS carpet cleaner on some. A few of the deeper ones keep coming back. The stuff is probably down in the pads. The trash that lived here had alot of dogs that I didn`t know about until they were gone. So, you can figure out what the big stains were.

Have you tried enzyme cleaners? I have an industrial strength one that is GREAT. There is a store here that carries all kind of "scratch and dent" stuff from damaged goods wholesalers. You can't believe the difference in the cleaning power.
I have an SC Johnson "protien spotter" and it works great, of course my problems aren't "set in".
I ALWAYS try peroxide first on stains. It will take many out. Peroxide will even take out blood. I have a white sofa and I didn't realize I had opened a cut I thought was healed on my hand. Thank God i knew the peroxide trick. Give that a try, it may help losen the deep down stains. Flood the area with the peroxide scrub it in then blot, the put news papers on top and weight them down so they absorb the remainder. might work.
