on sale - no limit. Yea we are going to stock up. *I will boil the turkey down just like chicken for canned soup and stock and DH will be making sausages and brats and boudin for me from the pork. *Anyone else doing the same?

This weekend we are going to have a sausage making and soup making party with the oldest son and his wife who are in the state - they live in Denver but because of his work have spent most of the last 6 months here and they are back again. I can just imagine the mess in the kitchen after but it will be a fun family "thang"

We have similar sales all this week. I was thinking about getting a few turkeys and canning up various dishes. It will certainly be a busy week. :)

WOW! Where do YOU live? We don't even EVER have fresh hams here. I cannot believe those prices, PLUS you actually can BUY fresh ham. That is one of my favorite things. Rivahmom, you too...our grocery prices have not changed much despite falling prices elsewhere... I just paid $.89 a pound for a 20lb turkey... oh well...
I DID GET STRIP STEAKS FOR $3.89 A POUND...

I stocked up on beef last week, already had lots of pork and chicken.....

Whole boneless slabs were $2.99lb,cut steaks were $5.99lb........so you can guess which I got. :)

I also got a whole pork shoulder on sale, turned it into 2 roasts and four pork steaks.

I did buy one turkey, but my parents have so many given to them, that there's no real need for me to stock up.They won't eat turkey more than once or twice a year.

That is a good price for ham and turkey though,I haven't seen any on sale that cheap yet.

I live in a city in VA so I get to choose from alot of competing grocery stores. The best deal is a t Bottom Dollar. Turkey is .38 c a pound and ham is .99 c a pound. I can't wait til Christmas when the old smithfield hams go on sale. Those I can stock up on and not have to worry about freezer space and they make such a good seasoning.

And I live in the Piney Woodsof East Texas. 700 hardy souls in our little Burg but I work 30 miles away in a larger town with several grocery stores. So between the town I work in and some of the surrounding towns - not so big but different grocery stores - we watch the sales on them all.

Last week they had turkeys at a flat price of $8 for up to 20 lbs - so that was around 40 cents/pound. Got 2 and stuck them in the freezer.
The local game meat processor has some buffalo tenderloins - but 8.99/lb is a little high I think....but they sound delish!

We also stock up on turkeys this time of year, can't beat the price. I got an extra yesterday to brine for a few days then smoke.

I've got 3 in the freezer right now. I plan on canning one this week and another next week. I'm still waiting for hams to drop in price here. They are holding at 1.98/lb.

Best I can find here in the SE is .67/pound. Hope the prices drop closer to Thanksgiving...I want to make soup!

Most of the stores around here are offering 59 or 69 cents/lb for frozen turkeys, but you have to buy an additional $25 or $35 in groceries. I suppose if you already do your regular shopping there that would be a good deal though.
