Anyone experienced in this area? I have one to replace at work and got down to trying to pull the 18hp engine apart from generator after removing all 4 bolts through the housing but it won't come apart. Any suggestions? Thank's

Don't know about your particular model, but one I took apart a few years ago, I had to pull the armature from the generator to get to the bolts that attached the gen to the motor. and even then, it was a press-fit bearing inside to the crankshaft.
Might want to look up the make/model on the 'net?

Mine had a long bolt that went through the center of the armature, opposite of the engine end. The shafts were taper fit.

Lots of ingenuity goes into putting those things together. I do recall that putting the thing together again was a lot harder than taking it apart.

I don't know why this was a double post but oh well. I pulled the 4 long bolt's out that went through the housing on the generator it'self and looked in the housing vents on the side and could see 4 more bolt's that bolt on the back of the motor through the housing. The only way I see to get to these is to go throught the generator end with a long extension and breaking the bolt's loose. I'm just wondering if there is anything screwed into the tail of the shaft on the motor? I can see that it is a tapered shaft but can't see the end of the shaft. I printed off a pic of the engine from the place where I am buying the new engine from and could see what look's to be threads on the tail like something screws into it. Guess I will find out tommorow

On the end opposite from the engine, remove the cover on the genny and see if there's a bolt dead center of the shaft. Mine had a long bolt that went through the center of the armature and threaded into the output shaft of the engine. The two shafts were taper fit and the long bolt pulled the two shafts together.
I had 4 bolts that connected the outer housing of the generator to the case of the engine. I removed these 4 bolts and removed the long center bolt and finaly got it apart after I got the taper fit shafts to seperate. Yours could be different, Idunno..
