Hi everyone! I was hoping someone could recommend a good (by good I mean long-lasting and inexpensive) spice grinder. I'm looking at electric and manual. I would like to get one that can do it all...from nutmeg to allspice.
What are the pros and cons of both from your experience?
Thanks for all your help! :)

Coffee grinder works for some things, some a mortar and pestle is better.

I have a Krups electric coffee grinder that works well with some spices. Just have to run rice through it to clean it. Better to have one dedicated to each use, but one's all I have right now.
A nutmeg grater is what you need for that spice. It looks similar to a tiny box grater. Some have a compartment to store a whole nutmeg. I've bought a couple of them at flea markets for a dollar or 2. Google nutmeg grater to learn more about them.
A pepper mill will work for some spices, besides pepper. May have to run it through the pepper mill, then use a mortar & pestle to finish grinding fine enough.
A smooth bottom castiron skillet set on something hard, like a piece of marble tile, can be used as a grinder. Same as cracking pepper with one. Once it's cracked, just keep "grinding" it until it's as small as you like. Not the best in the world, but it'll work in a pinch.
Hope this helps. BTW, for this type of function, look for as many alternatives, as you can find to stash in your "stuff" for backups. More than one nutmeg grater is an example.

I don't grind nutmeg, but for everything else, I use my Magic Bullet.
