I've got a Berkey water system with extra filters that I run all my drinking water through and for emergency situations. I'm wondering what is generally thought of these systems, and are there better water purifiers out there for general use and emegencys.

From all I have heard/Read they are one of the best. Never a complaint.
I don't have one but may get one.

I got the Big Berkey with 2 black elements (to me they are much better than the ceramics) from the link below. You can use 4 elements but I'm patient as each set runs approx. $99. As I recall there was no tax charged in that state and my order came in quickly and with no troubles..

This is the water filtration system missionaries take for their families to use in other countries. That says alot to me. If the link doesn't open for you lemme know, please.

I have the Big Berkey also, I've only used the black filters, but have some ceramic ones stashed. Why do you like the black filters better?

I also use the floride filters.

I have a Berky as well. Black filters and the flouride filters. had it for 3 years, no complaints at all. It's pricey but well worth it in my mind.

Hey jadlee..

Personal preference.. here's a short vid from Berkey explaining the differences.. hope it helps. BTW, if I had the ceramics already stashed, I'd still be happy. The Berkey products are all good :).

I like ours. We currently use 2 black filters but if we needed to increase capacity, it's just a matter of adding 2 more filters to speed things up.

They seem pricey for such a simple design but it's one of those things that just works so it seems worth the price to me.

If I were forced to filter rain water or ground water, I would probably run it through a sediment filter before pouring it through the Berkey. That way, I could prolong the life of the berkey filters.
