Can you tell I am just a little excited? My goal was to pay off our 30 year mortgage in 10 years when we built our house. I just wrote a check & paid it off in 7 years. I won't lie, it was a lot of sacrifice but so worth it. I feel like a huge weight is no longer hangin over my head & I'm light as a feather! Just had to share here because I know you all will understand. Everyone I know thinks you are always supposed to have a house payment and a car payment or two also and credit cards . . .

Congrat's, Emerald. We are working toward that goal, too, sending a little extra each month. We are about 4 years from payoff. I'll be getting a nice bonus in March; will probably put half toward the mortgage and half for the homestead (fencing, shed, etc.).

CONGRATULATIONS!!!
I can relate to that light as a feather feeling. Felt the same way, when we paid our last installment payment. Like you, we did without a lot that many folks consider to be necessities of life (and still do without many of them), but it was worth it.
Thanks for sharing your success with us. Especially for those still on this journey. IMHO, every shout of "I'm debt FREE" gives encouragement to those still in the battle. Yes, the battle can be won.

Congratulations - what a weight lifted. You spur me on! Have been making extra payments each month working toward the goal - couple more years left though - perseverance and doing without stuff we don't "need". Thanks for the encouragement. Enjoy.

Thanks to each of you! Next goal is to finish the barn/shed and finally get chickens. I have been waiting years to have them & I can't wait.
