Went to a yard sale today and my wife found a day bed for $50, a ok deal. They said since we were buying the day bed we could have this never used Maxpedition back pack for $10. I looked it up on line and the back pack sells for $129. But best of all they said take any of those books for free. In the books my wife found The Foxfire Book, the 1972 edition. FREE, What a deal.

Found a metal head and footboard with nice ivy scrollwork. It had been painted a dark mauve. Got it for $3. With some nice white paint I will finally have a headboard.

Also a few weeks ago I found a desk for $15 that will double as a sewing/work area. An electric knife barely used for $1. A cute wicker shelf for $4. A curio cabinet for $30. My folks found a kitchen table and chairs for me for $50.

I love garage sales too! Although some of them are kind of frustrating - a lady with a big bag of yarn, none of it matching, and all of it in old-fashioned colors (lots of orange) wanted $20 for it. As my mom said "she'll be keeping that yarn"

I bought a whole bolt of light blue tulle for $4.00 *I figure to use it to make bird netting when I plant my strawberries this fall. I thought I might bend some pvc pipe or something and drape the netting over it to keep the birds away. Birds pecking the berries has always been my number one problem with growing them.

I'm always amazed at what people get rid of at garage sales and resale shops. When I buy something, I tend to use it till it's beyond use to anyone at all, and not even fit to donate.

Great finds everyone! I've only been to a couple of yard sales this year, but haven't found anything good. Most of the stuff that people are selling are knick-knacks and stuffed animals... sigh.

Maybe next week :)

I know the feeling. Garage/yard sales around here are never very good. Sometimes you find something worthwhile, but I find most of the good stuff at resale shops, especially the church-operated ones. Seems like they don't try to get near retail prices for their stuff like Goodwill does. There's an 'upscale' Goodwill in town. Ridiculous prices for second hand stuff.

If you like garage sales it looks like the economy is making this a good year. People seem to be selling more of the things they would normally keep to raise money. I feel sorry for people having a hard time but we're all able to get by a little better and get some things we normally wouldn't buy by shopping at yard sales. Plus no taxes.

We HAD a garage sale last weekend - my Mom & I made $1600 the first day! We must have had everything marked low, but people kept coming back! LOL! We were also selling things that we had to clean out of G-ma's house now that she is in the nursing home. I am always amazed at the crap people buy around here :o

I had a garage sale about 3 years ago. :o. People were showing up just as I was setting out boxes of stuff, not even on the tables yet, just going nuts. I finally had to tell people to STOP!! when I heard breaking glass. >:(

I ended up making about $400 the first day and $75 the next, and still had a few tubs of stuff to donate to the local church resale shop. But I didn't have massive amounts of stuff to sell, just a moderate amount I guess. I feel like I did pretty well.

You're right about being surprised what people will buy--if I ever have another garage sale, I will be sure to have pleny of ratty old houseplants on hand. People were buying plants I had set aside to throw away!
