Paper towels are a luxury item at our house. I don't like to spend money on them so I usually make do with dish rags and extra napkins I get at drive-thru's. Dh's buddy is a truck driver and apparently he was delivering a load of paper towels and a pallet was damaged so the receiver had no use for it. He got to take a whole pallet (or as much of it as he could find a place for) home. He called and asked dh if we wanted some and of course we jumped at the chance. I was expecting some off brand paper towels but was still excited at having some when I wanted them. He came by today and dropped off part of what he had to give us. It was three HUGE 12 packs of Bounty Big Rolls. Oh I'm excited!

I keep paper towels on hand but have almost stopped using them due to expense and also trying to do my part to stop using things that are bad for the planet. I am not an eco fanatic but just feel bad if I use things like that. I subscribe to the newspaper so instead of throwing it away(we don't have recycling) I just use it when I need to drain fried foods which I do on a wire rack with newspaper underneath. I use handerchiefs for noses and dish and hand towels for dishes and hands. My kids(grown with families) grab paper towels for everything including hand drying.

I only really use them in the summer,we have to wipe down the dog's face before we bring him in the house........talk about DROOL........

I've switched to using mostly bar mop towels around the house. The are cheap, sturdy, and washable.

It is a good score! I am one of those that could probably do better in the paper towel department, but sometimes there are things wiped up that I don't want to wash...........doggy drool would be one of them :D

I buy paper towels but after reading some of the posts on this thread I am going to commit to do better about being more stingey with them.

I was excited when they went on sale at walgreens and I had a $1 coupon for a big 12 pack. I bought 2.

Awesome score! Free is always the best. I like papertowel for sopping up oil if deep frying - don't do a lot of it, but nothing seems to beat paper towel for that. Oil leaves such a nasty stain on cloth. If someone has a method for getting oil out of cloth I'd love to hear about it.

Over top & under of bacon cooked in the microwave is good too.

And my favorite, rip off a small piece to sop up the leak when I have to prick my finger to do blood sugar tests.

I don't use many paper towels, but I do use some--mostly for draining fried foods and for cleaning up gross things like cat puke. I would have been thrilled to score those packages, because that many paper towels would probably last me for years! :)

I cook and always get oil on me (before I fell in love w/ cobbler aprons lol).

Directly put dishwashing liquid on the grease stain (like Dawn). Rub it in and rub the stain really well. You can let it set for a day or two and then wash in really hot water. This can take a couple times to remove the stain but it's worked in my clothes.

People also spray Mean Green on grease stains but it hasn't worked for me.

Some paper towels are made better and stronger than others, and can actually be washed and dried for re-use.

That is a great score. When you realize those towels potentially were headed to the dump, I'd feel free to use and enjoy them guilt free. We don't use many paper towels here either. I use them primarily for grease clean up. I don't want major grease on my dish rags or even cleaning rags.
