It was Christmas last friday at work. The warehouse decided they wanted to buy a new warehouse ladder, you know the type with wheels and a platform on top that you can roll around and when stood on sinks to the floor for stability. Well they came over to me friday to get rid of the old one. I got permission to take it home and in a few weeks it will be chained to a tree and will make a 10 foot deer stand. How cool is that. [retorical question].

Very cool. The company I work for is a public company, so they will throw something away, but can't give it away. Lots of good stuff goes through the scrap metal bin and the dumpster. If you pick it out, you can get in big trouble, so it is not worth it. Lots of stuff goes to the auction and you have to go to the auction if you want to bid on it. You use to be able to just buy it at a price they wanted or you offered.
Isn't 10 foot a little short for a deer stand?

You wouldn't believe what we have gotten for free from the hospital. They were upgrading their overhead projection system for one of the conference rooms and were throwing away the older Barco projector. Bob got permission to take it home and we paid Home depot $110 to make us a rollup shade that was 8 feet by 8 feet. We now have our own personal movie theater. We have also gotten a Leica microscope, a oldie but goodie apothecary scale, two research containers (our BOB bags), an incubator (makes great yogurt) and other stuff. They were looking to get rid of an old 1940s iron lung but Bob said I couldn't have it.

Hay 10 feet is just enough. Deer do look up on occasion but with your back against a tree they don't seem to take you as a threat.Besides this old man doesn't like to go much more then 10 feet anyhow.
