Nope, not the ones we find on the beach with a gennie inside but the ones still made since the 20's.
I can't be the only one here with these, and I have 4.
One has a odd history, another I bought at a yard sale for 15 bucks, and the newest to me but the oldest over all were given to me free..
With that said if you have them and don't want them I sure do.
I get cheap light and heat when I run these. I usually run just 2 at a time since it becomes a burden being naturally lazy to fill and maintain these lamps, but in my ever so humbled opinion you can't beat these rigs with a stick...
3 are model B, and one is model 12.... I have a new model 23 which was early and that one doesn't run right, but they were fixed but not recalled so I am stuck with it. It has its uses but out doors tamming summer time insects..

I have two Aladdins, both model 23s, one I bought new about 15 years ago and the other I got at a resale shop and replaced a couple of missing parts. I love them both, and they do give a lot of heat.
I also have a beautiful nickle plated Rayo lamp but cannot find the proper flame spreader for it and so can't use it. I can't even discover which flame spreader fits it, and so have bought three by trial and error which did not fit.
Probably my favorite oil lamp isn't even an Aladdin, but a plain oil lamp with a #2 burner, but it seems to give more light than other #2 burners and I can't explain why. I use that one quite a bit.

Yep, just bought a new stainless model 23 last month. Keeping the wick trimmed is a trick. Don't care much for the plastic wick trimmer as it just doesn't seem to do a good job. A small pair of shears seems to work better for me. Got it for reading light while in the hot tub and it seems adequate.

Does this look like the correct one?

The best luck I've had with the wicks on Aladdin lamps is using a single edge razor blade and trimming it flush with the wick holder. (with the flame spreader removed)

I have only seen a brass wick trimmer in a museum in Md for these.. I wish I could see it again. I do the same thing 12vman does. As of late I run red dyed K-1 as clear is more than 35 bucks for 5 gallons and the red stuff is much cheaper. Every so often I wash the wicks in gasoline, and allow them to dry. I use 2 every day now, and don't mess with the wicks much. Right now they are glased over some, but it is heat more than light I want.
One little trick, I do is if there is a flamer coming off the burn I find a place where the mantle is more vertical so not rounding over the long flame, which helps me out alot.
One thing I would like to do better is fill them.. I use 2 liter soda pop bottles now, and no funnel. It seems I always spill a drop or two, and since I am a semi car tech I just can't stand that stuff on my skin and more over the smell..
1 drop sets me right off. yucko!

12VMan, that's not the correct flame spreader, I bought three different sizes of that style and none fit! It was getting pretty frustrating and so I haven't searched for a while, but this thread got me motivated to search again and I have a question in to a place and am hoping to get a reply in the next day or two. I'd love to get that old lamp working again.

GoodDaughter,
Try contacting Lehmans. http://www.lehmans.com/ Expensive, but if your spreader is available, they can point you.
I have what they call a double wick 'Amish' (which makes me laugh, as I am Mennonite), but my wicks were 1 3/16". They got them for me.

Sarah--I always ordered my wicks from Lehmans--they sent them right out--and they seem to last long--burn better.
A tighter weave I believe.
Mac--cant use that K-1---that stuff gives me horrible headaches.
Had to use oil.

Good Daughter-There may still be a very peculiar lamp shop in West Milton, Ohio. Fellow was a bit odd in a harmless sort of way, but he had lamp parts in there that were from planets unknown as far as I could ever tell. I will look to see if he is still there.
The old order and such were customers of his, and he helped me out a couple of times on my grandparent's old Aladdin. I will check.

Well, apparently the fellow has gone on-the shop is now a "cutesy" antique store with candles, cards, etc.

I have two Alladin's and I thought I'd share a tip I figured out. I was unhappy that the Alladin mantles are so expensive, and figured out how to jury-rig a Coleman type 95 mantle. Snip and bend the retaining wire in the #95 mantle to duplicate the opening of an Alladin, then shorten the overall length of the whole mantle by about 1/3. Stretch it out over the round bottum opening, and secure it at the bottum with a length of stiff wire. Hook the retaining wire at the top with those two little hooks that support the top of the mantle. Leave a bit of slack in the mantle because it will contract after burning. You'll know there's not enough slack if the mantle tears upon burning. Once broken in, the Coleman mantles appear to be more durable than the Alladin ones. Since an individual #95 mantle is only about a dollar, it is much more economical to run your alladin that way. By the way, I found my first Alladin at the flea market for 3$.
