A year ago we started working on putting a new roof on our cabin. Here's a picture taken toward the end of construction.

We decided to purchase all the materials and do all the work ourselves. We spent about 4000$ at the local Home Depot, and with the size of the purchase got a 12 month interest free grace period. Well, I diligently payed off 1/12 of the bill each month, and the final check is in the mail today, PAID IN FULL. I am so pleased with myself that we now have a completed water-tight roof and never paid Home Depot one single penny of interest for it!

Some years back I did the same thing with a credit card and credit through Lowe's..

The credit card.. No interest if paid off in 1 yr. (New Account) I bought my trusses and the metal roofing with that. The rest of the stuff I purchased at Lowe's. (One year-Same as cash) I planned it towards the end of the year and paid a bunch of it off with my income tax return checks in Feb. Worked out rather well. Paid for, Interest Free!
