I know I am not the only one shopping at salvage stores and Good will. I am really thrilled that I find things at the salvage store that I would not have otherwise. Really good mustard for 35 cents a big jar, canned artichokes, chirardelli chocolate for 50 cents a bar ( have to admit I have a weakness for chocolate). I usually buy things that are in a jar. I have bought oatmeal and it tasted like it was standing next to detergent for too long.

I love salvage stores....and thrift stores. At a salvage store, I recently loaded up with a lifetime supply of plastic sandwich bags, pop-up waxed paper sheets (the kind they line hamburger/french fries baskets with), pop-up foil sheets (I freeze all our breads in individual servings in these - they go from the freezer to the toaster oven...), oven bags, and rolls of FoodSaver bags. :D You just never know what you'll find.
Twenty years ago (give or take) I got plastic drop cloths for 10 cents a package. I must have had at least 50 of the things. They were very thin plastic, but we've used them for many home painting projects over the years.
Our Goodwill is now carrying new items, not just used. ;D

LOL
Karen, that reminds me of the joke about the husband and wife driving in the country and they pass a field with mules in it. Husband looks at wife and says "Relatives of yours?". Wife says "Yes, in-laws".
Has anyone tried this chain of thrift stores?

I have read pretty good things but I am not close to one. I was wondering if it would be worth the stop if I were in the area.

Big Lots/Odd Lots are pretty decent for overstock and discounted items, including food stuff. Some items are a bit peculiar, but it brings out the experimenter in everyone.
I have a feeling with the rising fuel prices, we will see a compatible rise in plastic goods, packaging-so many more people will probably be out looking for the "bargains" in the area.
