Since I live on a fixed income I get some food through a Food Bank program called Project Hope, which is due on the fourth Wednesday each month.
Tuesday I got a call saying that the food was at the nutrition center where I pick it up and I could get it that day or yesterday morning.
I went home to get my little rolling cart then went to pick up the food. Much to my amazement I got a box of about 25-35 pounds of "good" food. I stress good for the simple fact that one month late last year we got toothpaste and mouthwash!
When I checked it out I had 2 cans of tuna, 2 cans of salmon, several cans of condensed soup, several cans of veggies, some tomato sauce, two boxes of a single strip of Ritz crackers, a box of Lorna Doone cookies, and even a small can, I think it's 13 oz., of Maxwell House coffee.
If all the shipments were like that I'd be real happy. I just wish I could find a job where I had money coming in and could drop out of the program. Believe me though I am thankful for the people who donate to the food bank and provide much of the food I eat.

Isn't that a blessing rose?

Thank God for people and programs like that as the need is great.

I am glad your trip to get the food was well worth it.

What I'd REALLY like would be if people didn't donate so many outdated items. Yes, I realize that many things are good for quite some time after the "sell by" date on them but some things, like crackers and cookies and so on, will become stale even though they're in an unopened package.

I've posted this in the past but it's still a great program and if you're not familiar with it you might give it a try.

* Rick I've considered it but without a car it's difficult to get such things. *Also I have had trouble finding somewhere close that has the program. *Also, you need to like chicken as that's mostly what they give for meat. *Of course I like it if it comes a leg quarters but the breaded stuff I don't like because it usually has to be fried.
I found a church downtown that participates in the program so I'm going to call them and see how to go about ordering through them. I also see that they now have two menues, A & B, and I need to see if I get to choose which I want to order or if I have to take the B menu.

Just soak the breaded chicken in a little warm water for a few minutes. The wipe the breading off.

You could also try baking that pre-breaded chicken. You may have to put it on a rack to keep it up out of the juices so it won't be soggy, but it should turn out just like a shake-n-bake type of coating. You might also check to see if it has been "pre" fired a bit prior to freezing, so even baked it might not be all that healthy...
